Diabetic cat - help

I hope someone can help.
we got a rescue who is diabetic. My husband can do the shots to the neck easily but I can’t. He’s in Hong Kong for work and will be there for a while so it’s up to me to do the shots. Can I do them on any part of my boy’s body or does it have to be on his neck? For example, I find it easier near the leg…
thank you!

I think the scruff is the best pace due to the skin, but I think you can do it elsewhere, do check with the vet first. You do need to know how to do it though. I found it very stressful after I missed once and hurt the patient. I also managed a lot of 'fur shots'. It's quite a while since I had to do it.

Best thing would be to speak to the vet for advice if you struggle with it. Maybe take the patient in for a practice run so they can show you what to do. Getting it wrong can be serious. I actually left the cat with the vet a few times as I was struggling to get him stable, he was pretty sick though, due to neglect which was how I ended up with him.

I was taught to pull up the skin on the back of the neck and inject into that. I was doing it twice a day and would alternate sides.

The vet said this is the best place because it mostly painless. I did it when my cat was eating. Most times he didn’t seem to even notice.

I was told to try an empty syringe into an orange first to get the feel. I also watched YouTube videos.

I was really apprehensive at first, but it gets easier really quickly.

I actually shaved a little patch at the back of the cats neck to get used to doing it in the right place
