Blink or Untamed Cat Food

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 16/09/2023 07:40

Does anyone feed this to their furry overlords? Noah will be on raw kitten weaning paste when he arrives and I need to decide what to move him on to when he’s settled. I don’t want to keep him on raw but want to give him good quality food.

Blink seems the most practical as I can get it from Ocado as well as ordering it and it doesn’t need to be frozen.

If anyone can suggest anything high quality but cheaper that would also be appreciated!

We buy directly from blink. Had this for 5months. They send extras every so often too. In our 3rd box (I think) they sent a toy. Next box had a fork/spoon/knife thing for cat food. This months had a £5 off voucher for next month.

We fed our kitten Blink but he always had some rather... unideal poos, so we've just moved him to Applaws alongside his normal Scrumbles biscuits (Applaws isn't a complete food). He's not a huge fan so we're also going to try the Scrumbles wet food, which also happens to be cheaper.

Katkin looks lovely but the refrigerated aspect isn't practical for us.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 16/09/2023 09:24

That's something I'm hoping to avoid! I was tempted by Katkin but don't want to have to worry about defrosting it as I'm sure I'll forget. It's also one less thing to have to ask the cat sitter to do if we go away! I'll have a look as Scrumbles as well.

If you did decide to try Katkin this gets 50% off first box.

We tried lots, untamed and blink were ok, sometimes gave my cats irritated tummies but the portions are tiny.

We have 2 cats but the share the biggest 400cal pouch from Katkin. We found increasing the size of the pouch doesn't add much onto the cost. So you might get 2 days out of one £2.40 pouch.

pastaandpesto · 16/09/2023 12:17

DCat has tried all the premium foods, Untamed, Blink etc but KatKin has definitely been the best and he's eaten it exclusively for well over a year now.

You can keep a few days worth in the fridge defrosted and it's easy enough to defrost it more quickly in hot water if needed. Our catsitter has no problem feeding him when we're away.

Like PP we order the biggest pouch size, it's cheaper that way.

I’ve been put off Katkin after reading bad reviews when they changed their recipe. Maybe I will try it, although the new trays look more bulky to store than the old pouches

My boy started off on Blink as a kitten. He liked it initially and he was very healthy on it. As he got bigger the texture started to bore him, it's all very small pieces of meat and it just didn't seem to excite him much any more. We switched to Untamed and he loves it. Texturally there is more variety and he really enjoys the different flavours. His fur is super soft and he is very healthy and happy.

We did actually stop when they changed the recipe. But they brought back the pouches which you can choose in certain flavours. We moved to untamed but the cats were starving and it was costing us more and we had to top up with dried.

So now they've brought back pouches we've moved back to Katkin.

pastaandpesto · 16/09/2023 14:26

Katkin didn't handle the introduction of the new packaging and cooking method well at all and it was a bit if a shit show at the time. But to be fair to them, although the were too slow to react to how badly they had cocked up, they absolutely took on board the feedback and the end result has actually been more choice.

DCat happily eats botb Katkin styles and almost all the flavours, which is great because he has lots of variety and I don't feel that he is too dependant on a particular flavour or style of food.

Soubriquet · 16/09/2023 14:34

We got the £1 sample off blink and she loved it!!

Friendlyword · 16/09/2023 14:37

I found that Blink gave my cat diarrhea. It contains carrageenan which is a known carcinogen and can irritate the cats bowel. I tried Katkin but my cat wouldn't eat it. He has now been on untamed since it was first launched. He loves it, it's human grade, high protein, low carb and has no fillers or derivatives. Their customer service is excellent. The downside is it is very expensive but my cat is 18 now and so healthy that I think it's saved me money on vets bills.

ShadyPaws · 16/09/2023 14:44

Blink is the only wet food mine will eat
He won't even eat a piece of raw or cooked chicken Confused and I didn't want him on just dry food

RockingAmadeus · 16/09/2023 15:04

My boy is on Untamed and Concept for Life Dry food. Untamed is the only wet food he likes.

unvillage · 16/09/2023 23:12

Untamed isn't frozen! They have a good selection and it's good quality. The jelly recipes are complementary, if they were complete I'd feed my boy solely those. As it is he loves the Full On Fishy and tuna recipes.

(I've recently seen a sensationalised complaint about bones in the fish recipes - but the food is cooked, the bones are soft like in tinned sardines and not dangerous, you can even just mash them up.)

PaperDoves · 17/09/2023 07:25

OP we've now tried the Scrumbles wet food for the first time and our Blink-raised cat isn't sure it's actually food. So if you do look into Scrumbles, I recommend trying it before you try anything more expensive, lest your kitten also turns up his nose 😂

I think we'll be trying Untamed next.

MrsRachelDanvers · 17/09/2023 07:29

Try the European foods on Zooplus. Carny is inexpensive and 100% meat-heavy on organ meat but good quality. Animonda also do more premium foods. They just don’t have the clever marketing and design or cutesy names. But half the price.

HappySmiles2277B · 31/10/2023 08:58

Hiya - as my cat is senior and has had pancreatitis in the past and currently is being treated for hyperthyroidism those foods on Zooplus, they are great, all have too high a fat content. I have been told by my vet to keep the fat content as low as possible around the 2% mark. If you have a healthy cat that doesn't need monitoring in this way then those brands are great but mine won't eat anything but Untamed at this point. She will eat applaws if we are waiting on the prescription to be delivered but, as pointed out before, it isn't a complete food and you need dry with it.

AnOldCynic · 31/10/2023 16:37

Untamed here, interspersed with a box of Seriously Good as it's a bit cheaper but still grain and filler free.

Tried Katkin but they didn't like it. Same with Blink.

Qqbank01 · 20/11/2023 23:04

Another untamed user, my cat is happy to eat and empty the dish everytime.

Thanks for this, I just tried it and it gave me a free box as a trial. Fingers crossed DCat eats it!!

Hi! We have tried soooo many foods for our kitten but all gave him the runs! Finally got him settled on Blink and his poos are normal but he isn’t overly fussed by it!! Typical! I’m very very gradually trying to mix Untamed to move him over (as he LOVES it) but his poos have started to go a bit softer again. Has anyone found their kitten’s tummy started unsettled on Untamed but did settle eventually? I really want him on this as it’s great quality, he loves it and lots of flavour options as a complete food. I know a healthy kitten is best and obviously if his tummy continues to be upset, I’ll leave him on Blink, but would that like to hear of anyone else’s similar experiences please before we stop the Untamed transfer. Thanks x

I actually emailed untamed about their new treats as they have probiotics and my boy has also had a poorly stomach, not untamed related they just assumed. This was their reply if its helpful:

I'm so sorry to hear about Chester's digestive issues! Particularly so because usually, we get the complete opposite feedback 😔

With that said, because we only use whole meats, it is possible that the richness is causing some gastrointestinal excitement. This might happen even if you've tried other high-meat foods before (as our food is in big meat shreds more similar to natural prey, rather than finely ground-like trim).

It might be worth switching them back to their old food and gradually introducing Untamed, first as a small amount and then in increasing quantities over a week or so, and see if that helps?
