Robot Litter Trays

Does anyone have one? Are they worth the money? They look amazing, but so big! We have two indoor cats and need to change our litter box as it’s manky again. Wondering whether to invest in one, would also mean we could visit my parent for two nights instead of one without hiring a car sitter.

Whilst aimlessly browsing tele I came across a Jackson Galaxy programme. He's a cat 'whisperer'. He was absolutely horrified about the idea of these sort of litter trays; he said it was basically churning all the 'stink' together - yes, poo would be sieved out but wee would be evenly mixed!

Your meant to use them with clumping litter so the clumps get removed.

I’m getting one when I can afford it. You can’t leave cats unattended for two nights though, domestic pets are meant to be checked every 24hrs.

They are enormous! And still seem to be prototypes.

We have a Litter Robot 3. You have to use clumping litter, specific brands that have been tested to work well, so no wee mixing in or anything because it cycles into the waste tray same as poop They’re also not prototypes, we’ve had 2 over 5 years (replaced do the transatlantic move, it didn’t break) and they’re now making the Litter Robot 4. They’re not a substitute for a cat sitter though, and I would never my per for 2 nights. I will do 1 though and it’s really nice to come in afterwards and not smell litter!

Thanks! Are they difficult to clean, I’ve seen lots of reviews that they need a monthly clean and it takes over an hour!!

No, so easy to clean! Use a bin bag to line the deposits tray. Once every 5 days or so pull our the tray, tie it up, put it in the bin and replace with a new one. Once a month run the empty cycle, everything ends up in the tray so is bagged up and binned. Quick wipe round the drum with some method anti bac spray and kitchen roll. Pour in fresh litter. The only time it’s ever been tricky is when we once we used an incorrect brand of litter and had to take it apart to clean some of the sensors. But not even sure that took a whole hour. I’m honestly quite confused by those reviews you mention, are they definitely for the Litter Robot?

Great, sounds perfect. Think we will get one!!

We bought a Petkit Pura Max and eventually returned it. Poo smears all over the innards, it fills up really quickly and it’s a total nightmare to clean. They’re unhygienic and just not good enough yet in my opinion.
