Hyperthyroidism

My poor baby girl (aged 13) has been so ill. her blood results came back and she has extremely high thyroid levels.
She's started on medication and I'm going to take her to Bristol for radioactive iodine therapy which is basically the cure for this condition once she's stabilised and has put on some weight.
I didn't think she would get ill at just 13 but am just thinking thank God I got her insured when I adopted her two years ago because her treatment is going to cost £3k.
Any other hyperthyroid kitties out there. What age did it start?

Our girl was diagnosed at 14. We ended opting for the iodine treatment too (mainly because she was a bugger for taking meds and it was stressing us both out!).
The treatment worked and she recovered brilliantly. I was a bit concerned about her being at the hospital for a fortnight, then having to spend a further 2 weeks living in isolation (we were advised to keep her away from the kids, although thankfully we could spend time with her), but she coped well.
She lived another 2 years until her kidneys gave up but she remained healthy right up until the end, so I don't have any regrets about opting for the treatment. Having to chase her around the house and wrestle with her to take her meds would've made her last years miserable!
