Thyroid issue in my cat

Chowtime · 12/09/2023 19:03

I just had my 12 year old male cat tested for hyperthyroidism - results due back tomorrow but I think it quite likely to come back positive.

Does anyone have a cat with this condition? Just wondered how it's managed.

TIA

Aw bless, yes I had a female with hyperactive thyroid. Was just a case of mixing some tablets in food and checks. She also had asthma so that was a different story of putting a mask on, much harder! Good luck, it's treatable amd makes a huge difference. Xx

Yes, my cat has hyperthyroidism. He has liquid medication mixed with a lick-e-lix treat twice a day. He has a blood test every 3-4 months to monitor it and they tinker with the dose every now and then. The medication is quite pricey. If you buy your prescription from the vet, you can generally order the medication on line cheaper than you can buy it from the vets.

Yes me, I have a post up about it. I'm taking my girl in to have radioactive iodine treatment which is the cure for this condition but she has to regain the weight she lost first. After that she won't need any more medication. The insurance has agreed to pay for it.

My old girl had to take a tablet every day and got blood tests a few times a year for her thyroid, she was fine with it ☺️
