Is my cat poorly or just getting elderly?

My cat is around 13 years old, always been really affectionate, is an outside cat but doesn’t go much further than the garden. The last few weeks he just seems to be outside all the time, he comes in for food and then goes back to one of his spots outside (a chair in the garden or the grass out the front by my car). It could possibly just be down to the hot weather but usually he comes indoors to sleep during the day when it’s really hot.

I don’t really want to take him to the vets as he gets very stressed, plus he doesn’t really seem unwell if he’s eating and drinking as normal? No weight loss, no upset tummy etc..

He still likes me to make a fuss of him but mainly out in the garden and not indoors.

Nothing has changed in the house, we don’t have any other cats and no dog so he has nothing to worry about indoors.

Mine are the same, always under the table on the patio. I think there are a lot of birds and insects to watch, plus the temperature is nicer than indoors.

I expect once autumn hits they’ll be back indoors looking for a radiator pipe or cosy lap.

He does like to watch the birds (not as keen on catching them anymore). I think he’s confused by the weather, during the winter he rarely goes out so he’s probably just making the most of the warmth.

I suspect it's just the weather. Our 10 year old has been outside more than usual in the past week. The weather is changing now so see how he goes when it cools down.
