Would I be crazy to get a third cat?

We have two cats - a 9yo female and 2yo male. Both laidback friendly cats who rub along OK most of the time - the female is more independent, the male more attention-seeking and playful. He sometimes tries to initiate play with the female which tends to result in him getting a swipe. from her He's always excited to see other neighbourhood cats in the garden. I'm tempted to get another young cat as company for the male. Is this a good idea or likely to end in disaster?

It night work out, it might be a disaster. If you're concerned that he's not getting enough play time, then perhaps give him more attention for a while, and play with him more.

He does get lots of attention from us, and is generally laid back and happy. He just seems to have an unusual keenness for other cats.

We've had three cats for years and never had an issue. Our current set-up is two adult males and a male kitten, but we had an adult female up until she passed away in May and that was fine too.

Our current boys are 8, 3 and 5 months. It took 48 hours for them to accept the kitten and bathe him/play with him. No fights at all apart from one or two hisses from the 8yo over the first couple of days.
