Unwell cat

Recently went to vet with my cat about ten days ago for her check up, vaccinations, claws cut etc. She came away with clean bill of health.

Then Thursday noticed she was sleeping in her basket, general malaise, leading to refusing food and not drinking. I don’t give her Cat soup routinely but opened some and she didn’t even bother coming to kitchen for it. Normally she’s wild with impatience for it to be emptied into dish. Anyhow took it to her and she had about three licks and went back to sleep.

Back to vet yesterday, gave her anti inflammatory injection, plus course of antibiotics that will last until Monday. As it was weekend, couldn’t take her in for bloods/monitoring etc and honestly I am very very worried about not being able to afford more treatment if she hasn’t improved by Monday. She’s eleven years old.

Has anyone else had experience similar to this with their cat? I gave her first antibiotic last night at midnight. Just checked on her during night, she’s lethargic. I’m due to give her another tablet soon.

Very worried. Sorry 😞 for long post.

It's very scary when they get ill but carry on with the antibiotics, cats bounce back quickly & it's usually something simple like an infection from fighting.

We had similar with ours recently, he was all fluffed up, sleeping and had a high temperature. He was put on metacam to bring his fever down and had bloods which came back clear. It turned out to be a virus and he was much better after four or five days. We're six weeks on and he's completely back to normal. Hopefully it'll be the same for your cat. It's such a worry when they're I'll isn't it!

Does she go outside? She could be in pain or injured from a fight - in which case the only real solution is rest and antibiotics.

Or are you worried about something more serious?

I am going through the same with my eldest, 12, at the mo. He had pneumonia about 5 years ago, so when he stopped eating, he loves his food, we knew something was up.

Xray showed had little bits on his bronchial tubes? But not a whole chest full. He has fever also, so on 2 lots of antibiotics and inflam. Hasn't eaten for about 3 days but today has turned a corner finally. Slowly.

Just keep with meds. Make sure lots of water around. It is horrible though. Hope kittie gets better soon

Hoping things improve for your kitty very soon 💐

Same here!! Vaccination Thursday, clean bill of health, went downhill overnight last night, not eating or drinking and can't be tempted, just sitting, not even asleep. Very unusual for him. He's 8.
Quite a delayed reaction to the vaccine, but also quite a coincidence. Will monitor til lunchtime then phone vet.

Any signs of improvement with the antibiotics ?
Not sure how long to leave it before vet.... my cat was fine til yesterday evening so it's way less than 24 hrs but cats never seem to just recover by themselves (or maybe we don't give them the chance !)

Hi - thanks for all your responses. I took her back in after a weekend of her drinking virtually no water, declining food. She’s now been admitted to vets as even the nurse couldn’t get tablet (antibiotic) to stay down nor water w syringe. She’s very dehydrated but her temperature has come down a bit. Not well though. 😢

As poor thing, I've got appointment for this afternoon, hate it when they're not right. Fingers crossed for both of them.
