My cat keeps pooing on the floor

worried about my cat as the last month she has pooed in one of our rooms around 4 times (so not exactly everyday but it's not like her, she is 8). I was going to book a vets appointment anyway as her yearly jabs are due so will mention it to vets but any advice/opinions would be much appreciated. She is eating normally, behaving normally including running around and likes her food. My partner thinks perhaps she has an upset tummy here and there because she is eating something she shouldn't in the garden which is possible. I must add that when i buy plants it takes me ages as i check everything to see if they are toxic for cats but for all i know she may have eaten ie a slug.....

Is it an upset tummy poo? Is it a different place every time?

Our cat started doing this suddenly at age 4. We took him to the vet, they said he's perfectly healthy. The vet said it could be that he got spooked somehow when using the litter tray before (perhaps from a loud noise or something), and then felt afraid to use it. Apparently that is common with cats, they are very easily scared and it changes their behaviour.
The vet recommended we get an extra litter tray and put it in the room where he kept pooing. It worked!

I also recommend keeping the litter trays extremely clean. Occasionally ours will poo on the floor again if the litter tray isn't clean enough.

thanks for responses. she started doing this ages ago, just a few times and always in my dd's room so we got a second liter tray (vet advice) and put it in her bathroom which worked really well however she is back from uni and doesn't like the cat pooing in her bathroom so perhaps her being kept out of the bathroom hasn't helped although dd returns to uni in a couple of weeks. I don't think it is that though as she did it recently in my dd's bedroom which is where she does it usually when she does it. Having said that, lately she has done it in other random rooms infact, there are hardly any rooms now she hasn't done it in. I really can't think of anything obvious that might make her do it. She seems happy & both litter trays are clean but perhaps as suggested something may have scared her. She spooks easily. She isn't a sickly cat so have been lucky that for a long while haven't had any health worries with her but always worry that something will obviously go wrong at some point. Hoping it isn't anything major and that it doesn't keep happening as it's pretty grim. Lately i find myself walking into a room and being aware to look for a pile of it in a corner, pretty depressing as she never used to do this, only on very rare ocasions but now it is happening around once a week the last month. she loves the garden so perhaps she is eating something she shouldn't although it takes me hours going to a garden centre as i do check the plants i buy
