Bed time for kittens?

What time do your kittens usually go to sleep for the night? Granted they may not sleep through, but when's the first time they seem to go to sleep? Mines 12 weeks and I don't know if I'm keeping her up playing to wear her out for the right time! She gets food at 8 and plays til around 9:30 then I'll take her to her bed

Can I just say that the title of this thread made me well up a bit?

CUTE! Kittens in pyjamas tucked up with a story and nightlight.

Urm….you don’t put them into bed and tuck them up with a story. Cats will sleep where they want, when they want

DDs and SD did (three different cats over the years).

Bloody muppets loved it.

Current Muppet #1 loves being tucked into a fleece blanket in the winter evenings for his first bedtime (10pm). Second bedtime is around 2am, then it's up by 5 and back to bed after breakfast.

We put our kitten to bed each night in the cat carrier at 9pm, when he’s a bit older we are going to put him to bed in ‘his’ room (the conservatory) but at the moment we are using the carrier as he’s tiny

shoeawsome · 04/09/2023 20:49

My two cats herd me & DH upstairs when they are ready for bed! 🤣

Assume their positions on the landing & then bounce in to bed for a cuddle around 4am!

I've had to buy a little plug in motion sensor light for the landing so I don't fall over them in the night!

Bellyblueboy · 04/09/2023 21:19

Just wait until the winter OP - we all get concerned that our cats are cold at night!!

lots of threads about cats sleeping in cold utility rooms and conservatories. Lots of hints about heated blankets, pads and igloo beds.

mine burrows under the covers with me - so even less sleep😂

This popped up on FB and reminded me of the thread

Thanks for the stories, it's good to hear that it works for some. Ok maybe I didn't express myself clearly enough, the kitten is kept in the utility at night and has access in there to everything she needs. I just wondered what sort of time is reasonable to put her in there to suit herself. A couple of times we have woken her up in the morning and it seems like she's not moved a muscle in that time. Eventually she will have a cat flap in there so she can go out or come in or whatever she wants

We demand cute kitty pics!

Anxioys · 04/09/2023 22:42

Tbh I know they are energizing but cats and kittens love sleeping with others if they can. Can it sleep with you or another cat. It is supercute and makes the kitten happier.

where is his litter tray and food and is he crunched up all night? Cats are nocturnal animals and need to roam

i'm also concerned about the posts about crating cats, when has that become a thing?

agree to keeping them in a room with bed, food and litter when younger but this…

Bellyblueboy · 04/09/2023 23:32

yes - I have never heard of locking a cat in a cat carrier at night. I am not sure this is fair. My kitten was quite energetic at night - and had some food and kitten available along with her litter tray.

cats dont sleep through the night - even when they are tiny kittens - and mine did pee and poo at random times

Bellyblueboy · 04/09/2023 23:32

Maybe the cat carrier isn’t closed though?

Kwasi · 05/09/2023 07:00

What time do nocturnal animals go to sleep? Erm, after breakfast.

hate to be that poster - but cats aren’t nocturnal

OnTheBoardwalk · 05/09/2023 09:46

Fair point @Bellyblueboy

Cats are not nocturnal animals; they're crepuscular. This means that they are most active at dawn and dusk and get their rest during the day.

Bellyblueboy · 05/09/2023 10:57

Mine goes nuts at dawn - and goes outside at duck for half an hour buys sleeps like the dead in between😂

My cats sleep all day and have zoomies all night!

Please stop doing this. It's really unfair on your kitten.

They should have access to water and their litter tray 24-7.

Lorralorr · 05/09/2023 20:33

This has really made me laugh 😂

Lorralorr · 05/09/2023 20:36

Yeah as others have said, that’s really not good at all. It would be like locking you into a cupboard all day. Is there even a litter tray in this carrier? Water, food?

the rest of us knew what was being said. Really no idea why the question was asked. For undeserved attention?

Fireflyfunhouse · 06/09/2023 21:42

Cats sleep, anywhere,
Any table, any chair
Top of piano, window-ledge,
In the middle, on the edge,
Open drawer, empty shoe,
Anybody's lap will do,
Fitted in a cardboard box,
In the cupboard, with your frocks-
Anywhere! They don't care!
Cats sleep anywhere.
