Is our 19yr old cat a diva?

Rhetorical question I think. Here she is. DD fed her on the chair, once only mind, ever since then she jumps onto the chair to be fed. And so we feed her there! What is wrong with us, we just cave and do it. It’s like a cat spell.

All was fine but a bit off putting because the chair is now the food station of choice. So now I can’t put my bag there, my bag goes on the floor. She’s had some Lick e Lix and now is refusing chicken or even gourmet pyramid thingies. She’s on the Thyroid stuff.

Don’t know what I’m asking really, I know we have no say in the matter.

Know your place, serf. The cushion is hers.

Florencearbuthnot2 · 27/08/2023 20:19

Bless the princess! She’s 19 let her boss you all about 😀

RunnerDown · 27/08/2023 20:27

She looks great . I also have a 19 year old on medication for her thyroid. She sits on 1 of the dining room chairs beside us and demands a taste of whatever we are having. Today she’s enjoyed almond croissants , fish tacos and sweet potato fries. Totally turns her nose up at ordinary cat food but will accept raw chicken, prawns , tuna or smoked salmon.

She’s 19, she isn’t a diva she’s a full on prima dona!

35965a · 27/08/2023 20:37

She’s an absolute Queen and should be treated as such!

Snooks1971 · 27/08/2023 20:48

I’m going to show her this thread and I guarantee that she will look the other way!
Stare at the nearest wall, pretend to want to go outside but change her mind
Loving the promotion from diva to prima Donna!

She's so regal 😻

Glad to see she is doing sting off nice China!

We rescued an old girl and she came to us very very thin.

But then she decided she didn't like pouches with jelly and wouldn't eat for 24 hours if that was the only thing on offer.... so we rushed and got gravy pouches. Which was fine for about a week, and then she went on hunger strike, all 2.5 kg of her .. until she was given jelly pouches. But only fish ones, she wasn't going to eat meat, she'd rather starve again. And then we starting giving her treats like dreamies and those cat sticks, as a treat, and she stopped eating pouches altogether because why would she when she could just eat dreamies all day instead.

She’s not a diva, she just knows her worth & her rightful place.

Sorry I’ve only just seen this. You are so right. We have always constantly juggled what she will or won’t eat. Ooh she loves those pouches, let’s buy some more! Oh. She hates those pouches now that we’ve stocked up, what a surprise.
She was a stray older kitten when we adopted her. Like utter fools we decided to give her expensive Sheba pouches for a treat at Christmas about 18 years ago. You can probably guess the rest!

Haha. My 12 year loved having cuddles on her bed in my old flat which was on my chest of drawers for 11 years

now I have moved to a house, she has to have night cuddles on the stairs with head through the bannister with me standing on the other side with my hand through it. She rushes up the stairs at night to get a cuddle and purr her head off

MNetcurtains · 04/09/2023 19:42

Know your place. You are her staff and your entire purpose is to make her life as comfortable as she wants it to be. End of.🤗

So - you have to basically contort yourself to administer strokes? Well that’s very reasonable and the very least that you can do I think.

Sometimes I go to bed slightly earlier than I would because she’s sat there on the bed waiting to do the making biscuits thing.
DD15 has just put her saucer of cream on the chair too. That’s that then.

@Snooks1971 yip as she pops her head through the bannister for a kiss. But she will only do it on the stairs to the attic bedroom. DP never heard her purr so loud.

she had a routine of me coming in from work in old house and having a kitchen table cuddle. She would lie of her side and wrap her back legs round my arms so she got a belly rub and head kisses whilst doing biscuits.

she is not affectionate really. Only on her terms but at set times. Kitchen table cuddles have turned to stair cuddles.

Ha, this is like our cat who will stop at a distance of 1.5 m away from you (just out of arm’s reach) to demand strokes. She wants us to have to get up to demonstrate our love…
