What is up with my cat!

Partly lighthearted but also I really want to know why is driving this behaviour so any insight is appreciated! Sorry, this is really long, mainly because I am obsessed with my cats 🥰 but also because I just want to understand her behaviour and she is very different with other people as to what she is with us.

I have grown up with cats and currently have four.

She is 3 and she never miaows, ever. She is loved and adored at home but acts like such an oddball.

She loves affection and cuddles and strokes, except it has to be in her designated spot. She won’t deviate from that spot and will spend days there - if you go to her, she wriggles for attention and strokes and clearly wants the affection. She gives kisses and wants belly rubs and clearly loves being stroked so she is not the aloof kind. But unless it’s in her designated spot like DS’s bed, she won’t come and ask for attention. You won’t find her in any place in the house except that chosen spot.

Except when she is outside, we have observed her chasing people down asking for strokes. Literally will cross the road when she sees people coming and tries to get strokes.

Yesterday morning a neighbour several doors down who doesn’t have cats texted me a picture of my cat in her front room. She said my cat had been miaowing loudly outside her window and had got inside, and wouldn’t leave. When I went to get her, my cat was sat on her sofa and gave me the biggest miaow when she saw me - like, “Oh! What are you doing here?” 😂😂

I have barely ever heard my cat miaow. It’s a big joke in our house. She’s silent. So why is she going to another home (where there’s no cat food) and MIAOWING loudly to be let in???

Sounds like you have been sacked op.
Your job as dcat slave is over.
You need to up your game or she will imo find a home that does have dcat food....

Noooooooo! I love her so much and literally do everything I can for her.

She might be territorial and prefer being somewhere where she is the only cat - at least some of the time?

The miaowing, I guess she doesn’t miaow at yours because there is nothing she needs 😁

She sounds adorable 🤗

we need a photograph…

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 27/08/2023 10:39

Apologies, no photo is very remiss of me. Here she is.

I love her so much and it’s very clear she loves me. I’ve had cats before that don’t tolerate a lot of attention and give very little back but she’s not like that. She loves it. Instant purring when I go to her, lots of nuzzling and flopping onto her back for belly rubs, nuzzles me and gazes at me, puts her paw onto my hand to get me to continue, loves head kisses and nuzzling. But won’t come and hang out in the rest of the flat like the others yet goes and seeks attention from strangers.

We got her with her sister then got two more kittens a couple of years later. She was deffo like this before the other two arrived. She’s just an oddball.

Well that poor dcat hasn't even got a proper pillow. Just a Rubik's cube for comfort. No wonder she seeks a new abode!! Yabu op. You should be ashamed!

Iamacatslave · 27/08/2023 10:57

She is gorgeous.

My neighbour's cat is a bit like this. If you see her outside at the front of the flats she does her " I'm a poor abandoned kitty out in the cold cold snow and I haven't eaten anything except what I can find from scrunched up Maccy D bags and I need stroking for 10 hours and to come home with you immediately " act.

If you see her in the rear garden she is all " Do I know you human? Do not distract me. I am pure panther. Your only correct response is to worship me from afar. You may not touch the royal personage."

I think it is just cat being cat

I know, right?! She prefers my son’s absolute pigsty of a bed to the comforts of literally anywhere else in her home. The others have favoured sleeping spots but there’s variety to it - dining room chairs, other (non pigsty) beds, the sofas, airing cupboards. She has her favoured spot and will NOT deviate from it for months until she decides somewhere else is better. That somewhere else place could be as random as the middle of the living room and no matter how many times she is disturbed, she won’t move.

So true. So true. I think my feelings are hurt that she’s so disloyal 😂

I've no answer at all OP, as my cat is exactly the same !! Definitely an odd ball.

He will only accept love and kisses in one particular spot in the house. The top step.In that spot I can do anything with him, touch him all over even paws face etc.Anywhere else I get a cuff on the arm or leg and a don't touch me growl and stare.Totally silent too apart from the growling. He's part feral and lived on the streets for years.
He's a wanderer too, and is so friendly half a mile down the road where he mingles with the large student population. He loves them and they can do anything with him.
I'm baffled, but wonder if he has good memories of being fussed on the top step.
Probably just being a furry weirdo ! 😻😹

^ this. I've seen some whiskers in my time, and she has a fine set of long ones.

Yes same! It’s such odd behaviour. Two little oddballs 🥰

@Merapi and @YetAnotherSpartacus i suspect it’s because she’s quite chubby. Possibly because she’s seeking out other homes to be fed from.
