Am I feeding my cat right?

We have rescued a 4 year old long haired boy whom we adore.

He's 4.5kg, pretty long with big paws, I can feel his ribs and waist so I'd say he's a healthy size.

We've been going on packet instructions and advice of the rescue centre and give him one tin of Aldi cat food (small tins, about 100g) in the morning and 40-50g of Iams dry food over 2 portions afternoon and evening. Does this sound about right in reality? We are cat lovers but first time owners.

He's got a 'hungry' sound that we hear quite a lot of plus seems happy lazing in and outside, with regular periods of us playing with his fishing line with him.

He gets quite nippy before mealtimes. He's defitely not wasting away, coat is enviably shiny, but I'm just a bit concerned he's not getting enough. I definitely don't want to over feed him though.

Grateful for any thoughts.

If he's maintaining his weight and is healthy, then it sounds absolutely fine. You could try splitting his wet food over more meals if you think that would help?

Thank you! That's a relief that I'm not wildly out. I like that idea, I'm not sure which is more filling so a mix might be more even throughout the day.

Tbh I think he is a chancer at times, giving DP the hungry noise if I've fed him and vice versa!

Yep - welcome to being owned by a cat Grin

Mine have always had set mealtimes and still chance it for more 🙈
