Blocking a cat flap at night

We keep our cat in at night but he has free access to cat flap during the day.
We can lock the catflap but twice he's bypassed the lock mechanism and got himself out. I think he pulled the flap towards himself and somehow clicked it open.
We put something in front of the catflap at night at the moment but it is irritating. He associates it being covered with not being able to go out so he doesn't go near it. If we leave it uncovered, he's always having a go at opening it.

I have searched online for some kind of cat flap cover but I don't think they exist.
I want something secure but easy on and off. Maybe I could use a shower cap? Or some magical velcro thing?

I'll be ordering one of these. We don't currently have a cat but don't want to get rid of the cat flap just in case. It would be nice to get rid of the draft in the kitchen though!

@Moose3D just placed an order! I have a standard non WiFi microchip cat flap so hopefully I've picked the right one.

It came up when googling and glad it did! I'm amazed Sure Flap don't make one.

@Moose3D Thanks Moose! The cat tried his best to get out, he looked flummoxed! For the first time I can leave the lounge door open at night 😊
Also I didn't realise the draught that came through the flap so hopefully the room will be a bit warmer.
@PinkSparklyPussyCat would recommend this

I was over the moon when I found this post but soon crashed once I saw our cat door is too big for one of these covers 😥
Back to the drawing board…

We had the same issue - ancient catflap in a rental property, but I managed to solve it with the help of a Tupperware box (which fits neatly over the catflap) and some sticky back Velcro to hold it in place. Also added a piece of card inside to stop DCat peering out and yowling (she’s only shut in at night). Nothing to look at, but it does the trick.

@Moose3Ddo you realise that there will be a hoard of very cross cats seeking you out for death at the creation of this?

Does anyone know if these covers will fit on the outside too? Looking for something to stop water coming in when the wind / rain is blowing directly into it

Very glad I found this thread. I've just ordered one for my catflap rather than having a big box in front of it (the in only function on my cat flap is broken)

I am so glad I clicked on this thread. My cat can unlock his flap with brute force, but I want him in at night. He's a nightmare for hunting. And I'm sick of dead mice in the house.

@LadyDanburysHat did it solve the issue? Do you have a litter tray for over night?

Currently on the sofa due to mouse brought into my bedroom by the cat. Every time I hear the flap I am nervous!
