Cone after spaying HELP

Hi all,
our kitten has been spayed today. She is safe and we’ll back home but hates the cone. She has managed to get it off 3 times this afternoon and I’m worried she will do herself more harm then good trying to get out if it as she throws herself around everywhere!

So I keep putting it back on or leave it off? Her stitches are internal if that helps at all?

Hrnp a worried kitten mummy!

Leave it off. My cats absolutely hated it after surgery, so I took it off. They never touched their wounds.

My cat didn't have a cone on at all. She licked her side carefully but didn't do any damage. Poor cats they hate cones.

Take it off. I don't think most vets do cones for spaying any more.

Clarich007 · 11/08/2023 17:09

Sorry meant to say I would leave it off and keep an eye on her

I've never had a cat need to wear a cone after being spayed.

I'd leave it off. Mine didn't have a cone after spaying and was fine. She gently licked as part of her normal grooming but didn't really bother with the wound and it healed super fast.

We tried a soft doughnut ring thing and it was miserable for our 3, but way better than the cone. If she's not bothering her stitches, just let her be.

I agree cones are terrible and must be very confusing for animals! Have you considered a pet bodysuit? You might be able to get them from Amazon.

I would recommend using something to protect the area because if it does get infected for any reason at least you can say you kept the site covered and your kitten wasn't able to get to it.

Thanks all! Cone in the bin! I’ve been out and got her a pet body suit and she’s now much happier -on her favourite human’s lap for a cuddle!
