Euthanasia Cost

The heartbreaking decision has been made to have our darling cat PTS due to her aging years (19) and quality of life.

When making the appointment with our vet (Vet for Pets), I didn't ask about the cost. I failed miserably to book the appointment without bursting into tears and just wanted to get off the phone.

Has anyone been through this recently that can give me a rough idea of cost. I'm in Surrey if that has any bearing on prices.

Think depends on what you want done, we had our boy put in with other animals and didn't want any ashes. This cost about £250, and that was with discount in SE just after lock down

I'm really sorry to hear this. A year ago we were in the same position.

Euthanasia started at our vet at £120, but there are additions if you wanted the cremation option. I think with this option you just take the body which you can clearly bury in your own garden.

The cremation, if this is selected, comes with choices. You can opt for the cremation be used just for your pet - clearly this is more expensive but then the ashes are just for your cat.

There is also the choice of receptacle to bring the ashes back in - there was a choice to spread ashes at the unit, or bring them back in a tube or special box - each with a varying cost.

We chose to bring the ashes back in a wooden box of just our cat - it was £300.

If you can arrange to pay the bill up front or after a week or so this means you don't have to queue up at the vets immediately after the event, in tears.

My girl cost £208 last Saturday, including individual cremation. She was on the health plan. So probably got a discount. So

Six years ago our vet quoted us £320, another local vet quoted £170 for exactly the same service (PTS at the vet, individual cremation and return of ashes).
This was two different vets in Egham.
So much as it's unpleasant to do so, it is worth confirming the cost with your vet and if it seems too much to get a second opinion.

It was £125 when Harry was put to sleep in April. The individual cremation on top of that was £266 including the casket. This was in Staines.

When I had to have Boycat PTS in February, the vets Euthanasia bill was just shy of £90 - Medivet, no plan there. I opted for the basic group cremation with no return of ashes, and I think that was about £100-£120

I had no idea there were so many options and possible add ons! Going by all of your comments, it looks like I'll be expecting somewhere in the region of £300 - £400 if I opt for a private cremation and a vessel to have her ashes returned.

She has given me a lifetime of joy and love so I don't begrudge paying that amount at all. It's just nice to know in advance what to expect.

I had my DCat pts in June that was £89 and then £90 for a scatter tube with his ashes or £120 for a wooden box. I just got a scatter tube cos I wasn't sure if I wanted to buy my own urn at some point. Mine also did me his paw and nose prints which they sent to me in a card a few days later and they also asked if wanted some of his fur which they let me cut off, and they put into a tiny little glass bottle for me. I am hoping at some point to have his paw print tattooed onto my arm. His paw print at one side and the miscarriage ribbon at the other side entwined through the infinity symbol to honour my fur Baby and my Babies.

I know this is the Litter Tray not Doghouse but two years ago I paid £200 to have my large dog pts and individually cremated. My lovely vet paid for a gorgeous polished pale wood casket for his ashes as he had known my DDog so long and seen him through so much. There are some lovely containers on Amazon too.

I'm so sorry.

I used a home euthanasia service earlier this year:

Home visit/Euthanasia - £380
Cremation - £297

Plus VAT of £134

All in all it was over £800 but I don't regret one penny of it for the compassion that was shown to my precious boy 😽

I paid just over £100 last year for euthanasia for my darling Suki.
I brought her home with me, to bury in the garden next to her sister.

West Yorkshire here.
My cat cost £150 two years ago.. left here there .. communal.
My Dog this March was £200.
Same left there Communal.
Both age 16.

I just got a new 10 week old kitten.
I didn't know how much l needed her until l got her.
I'd ring your vets and ask for the prices for different options.
