Why has my cat got boobs?

Background - stray/lost cat turned up end of last year, young (4 months ish) , very thin, wounded. I ended up taking her in. Sorted the wound out, kept inside, spayed January.

She has grown, and put on weight, no longer eating like its her 1st meal in weeks. I've noticed though that she has a pair of boobs. My other spayed female cat has the typical saggy belly area. But thus one, if she sits in a certain way grooming herself, has very prominent boobs. 2, at the last set of nipples.

I'm away for a few days from tomorrow, but can take her to the vet when I get back. Just wondering, should I be worried?? It's so odd!

It might just be the way her primordial pouch sits.

If I've understood correctly and it's the last two nipples by her back legs it might just be the way her primordial pouch (the usual saggy tummy bit) looks as think it can vary from cat to cat and maybe it's not been so visible until now if she's not been underweight when she was a stray

That's what I thought, I could see what looked like the saggy tummy, when she was walking around. But when she sits and grooms herself, (as in, sits on her bum, legs akimbo) there are 2 egg like boobs..

My other cat just has saggy skin. Although I wouldn't dare try to touch ut, I don't think it has egg lumps!

Are you using Oestrogel? That can sometimes transfer if hands are not washed after application. Pets are presenting at vets with enlarged nips.

Bemyclementine · 07/08/2023 00:44

I'm not. She's otherwise very well and not paying the boobs any attention. It's odd.

Can you take a photo?

Yarnorama · 07/08/2023 01:00

My last cat's pouch looked like moobs, current cat's is less marked. They do vary.

I tried to take a photo, but it doesn't really show up. When she lays back they do disappear, much like my own 😂

Do they feel soft or hard? If they feel hard or have a hard lump, then get her checked out by the vet just in case she has mammary cancer. Extremely unlikely to appear on both sides at the same time, but if finances and time allow it can't hurt.

Plus if she was in such a bad state when she moved in, a general MoT just to see how she's progressing can't hurt
