Cat flap advice!

I need to get a cat flap installed in my UPVC back door for my ageing cat who is no longer able to jump up to use the window. I have a Man Who Can (not my DP lol) so I just need to get the flap.

I dont need one with WiFi, microchips or any other whistles and bells (gosh catflaps have come a long way since I last bought one about 30 years ago!) just basic open/ close functions with the ability to be locked shut if needed.

Can any one recommend one (or tell me which ones to avoid)? Many thanks.

(I haven't posted in the Litter Tray before so pic of floof included in case that's the done thing here!)

Think its a SureFlap microchip one we have. We got a microchip one to stop other cats coming in the house. It works using the cats microchip (if your cat has one)

Just pick one off Amazon that has good reviews and is big enough for your cat (some cat flaps are bigger than others!) Ours is CatMate, it’s fine but I did prefer the Sureflap we had at our old house

Demented pixie - ah I don't realise they responded to the cat's own chip - I assumed they needed a chip on the collar (which my boy won't tolerate). Good to know, thank you!

Emeraldduck - I must admit this is my usual approach lol, I think it was a Sureflap that caught my eye.

He's never used a catflap before and I saw some which can open from the side, which might suit him as he can open normal human doors but is a bit anxious and easily spooked so I was concerned a top hinged one might both confuse and scare him!

I'd strongly recommend getting a microchip catflap so you don't find that your ageing floof is harrassed by other cats.

We don't have a catflap but discovered that bastard cat is well able to use them as he has been letting himself in via catflaps all over the village.

I’d get a microchip one too, cats love going into each others houses to mooch around.

Hes a beautiful cat.

We have sureflap microchip one, very happy with it. No intruder cats, although apparently my boy cat has managed to break in a neighbours flap, no idea which one she has, but apparently he can get in but not out of her utility room!

Beautiful cat .

Thanks everyone, taking all these ideas on board!

We had a Sureflap microchip one, to stop a neighbour’s cat coming in and eating all our cat food - which he does, if he gets chance!
