Visiting cat being a right pain!

For a while now I’ve been having trouble with a stranger cat! He’s coming around all hours of the day and night, even 2 o’clock in the morning! He cries and scratches at the door. I’ve got 2 cats ones an old man and one’s a 4 year old girl who doesn’t go out. Usually the stranger sits one side of the door and my 2 are inside hissing at him. However today my Tom is outside sitting in the garden and my girl is looking outside through the door and the cat is ignoring the Tom and scratching at the door to try and get inside to my girl. She’s been neutered so she isn’t ’in heat’. Would a male cat still try to mate with her ? And what can I do to about him. Btw I don’t know for sure if it’s a boy or girl. Any ideas? Tia 💐

Any cat experts out there?

I used to have cats and foxes come up to the catflap to stare in, cue lots of hissing and hitting the door from my girl.

I cover up the catflap at night, and during the day every time I see a cat or fox I use a water pistol.

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 04/08/2023 07:16

Is he after your cat or does he want to get inside for food?

Shoemadlady · 04/08/2023 07:27

Have you lived in your home long? He isn't lost or used to live there?

Ladybird69 · 04/08/2023 22:06

@cinnamonfrenchtoast thats it! I think he’s interested in my cat but she’s an indoor cat so I don’t know how he’s even noticed her. She’s been neutered so she isn’t coming into heat or anything!
@Shoemadlady ive lived here for years but it’s only been coming round for a couple of months. It’s got a collar on but it won’t come near me to let me read it or see if it’s a male or female!
@Saverage I keep the doors shut for my own cat’s safety but unfortunately it’s a conservatory so I can’t block them from seeing each other!
it was scratching at the door at half 6 this morning! And it’s outside now and my cats are sitting by the door hissing! He’s as much trouble as my own 2!

I own a 'visiting cat'.

He isn't interested in your cat. He is interested in food, a comfy seat, being warm and getting out of the rain. More or less in that order.

Oh and generally being nosy and entitled.

If you make it clear that he's unwelcome, he'll piss off. Sadly mine lives near a lot of elderly cat ladies who don't have the heart to kick him out but do like having a moan about him turning up and being a git.

Ladybird69 · 04/08/2023 22:57

@AnnaMagnani lol I must admit that I totally spoil my cats so the conservatory is full of squishy cushions, blankets and throws and lots of cat toys. Maybe he just wants to come and snuggle 🤣 it looks in good condition so I don’t think it’s a stray so I’m not putting food out for it, so theres no encouragement food wise for it.

@Ladybird69 this is my cat. This is not my conservatory 😂

Trouble is that cats can be surprisingly persistent.
NDN's cat (amply documented elsewhere on this site) has spent the last 5 years using all its waking moments laying siege in to our house. Nothing we've done has made any difference...
OP - Is your NMC stripey by any chance?

AnnaMagnani · 05/08/2023 13:38

I suspect your visiting cat isn't interested in your girl house cat. However if she is like my girl who goes out as far as the patio, she is massively territorial.

She goes absolutely beserk at the sound of another cat and will defend her patio to the death. She's ended up at the vets before, having got herself ill from stress when another cat looked in the patio doors.

So I think the visitor isn't interested in her, but she is very interested in him.

Ladybird69 · 05/08/2023 17:55

@AnnaMagnani spooky your cat looks very much like my visitor! He looks very comfortable in there 🤣nah she’s not interested in it. She just sits there! It’s my Tom who gets upset and then she gets upset.
@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats love your name 😁 oh what does NMC stand for? The visitor is white and tabby, I’ve got a white and ginger Tom and a mink girl (she’s a raggie that’s why she’s a house cat) The visitor doesn’t seem bothered I shoo it away and it slinks off then comes straight back when I disappear.

@AnnaMagnani I had a cat that actually got her tooth stuck through her own mouth , where she’d opened her mouth so wide to attack the other cat! The vet said he’d never seen anything like it before. 🤣

Do you have the option to cat proof your garden? Keeping him out and yours in? Best thing we ever did!

ErrolTheDragon · 05/08/2023 18:06

I cover up the catflap at night, and during the day every time I see a cat or fox I use a water pistol.

We deterred the voracious neighbourhood hunter from lurking under our bird table with a supersoaker.

Sorry OP.
NMC = Not My Cat 🤣.

A picture Of NMC (outside my front door) for you.
