Depressed and cross kitty

I have a one year old BSH who I love very much - for the first six months I had her she loved running around playing, and while she wasn’t a lap cat she often sat cuddled up next to me, and would follow me around.

The last few weeks / month or two she seems to have completely changed. She often runs away from me when I go near her, spends a lot of time sitting on her blanket, and I cannot get her to play with me at all. She will still play with a couple of electric whizzy toys but when I wave a wand at her she looks at me like I’m a lunatic. She’s also a picky eater (but gained weight somehow).

No matter how much attention and stimulation I try she just isn’t interested and I don’t know what to do. Has anyone ever used a cat behaviourist and could recommend one?

thank you!

Have you had her vet checked? When my (much older) cat stopped playing with toys, it turned out she had a huge dental infection and needed a canine tooth removed.

As soon as she recovered from the surgery she was back to sprinting around the house. She hadn't stopped eating or drinking.

Yeah, the vet checked her last week - he thought she was quite cross and had previously been ill but was recovering. She definitely seemed to perk up a couple of days later, but the grumpiness has continued.

Maybe try a Feliway plug in for a few weeks? Is she spayed?

Yeah she was spayed last year. Will try a plug again, good suggestion - thank you.

How did you get on with the feliway plug? Asking as my 12 year old cat has recently stopped playing and choosing to lounge away from us in secluded places. Had 2 check ups this week, which couldn't find anything wrong with him, the car trips only stressed him out more, so today I'm buying feliway plugs

Does she go outside?
