Cat come home cut, checking I’m not overreacting!

Dcat has come in late tonight with a cut where his bone would be on the part that looks like his elbow on back legs if you know what I mean I’m sure there’s a proper name Grin didn’t even realise at first but he was crying after he ate which is normalish for him as of recent as dd is away and he’s an attention seeker when she’s not here. But as he turned around and cried I looked over and spotted it, it’s quite deep altho our last cat had same except you could see bone so I’ve seen worse. I’ll of course call the vets in the morning but would I be unreasonable to bring him to an emergency vet if ours has no appointments as previous Dcat turned out to have been ran over and required emergency surgery so I’m uncomfortable waiting any longer than necessary altho he’s fine and sleeping next to me currently I wouldn’t want to leave him suffering as he must be in some pain even if it’s superficial.

Oh yes I’d make sure he’s seen asap. Poor chap must be really uncomfortable. Do you think he might have been fighting? My big lad has had a few cat bite abscesses and they are nasty. They don’t always show at first but need antibiotics asap really.

Crzy · 02/08/2023 03:36

@Findyourneutralspace wouldn’t put it past him as he’s not usually allowed out after dark due to his tendency to love a fight altho he’s neutered and always ends up cut up so I have no idea why he still thinks he can try it!

Will defo get him checked as I thought as much as luckily we’ve managed to avoid any abscesses or infections before and would like to keep it that way so glad to know it wouldn’t be unreasonable to get him seen by emergency vet if his normal vet can’t fit him in.

Oh how they do love to cause us stress I guarantee he’ll act like I’ve tried to kill him when I’m attempting to lure him into the carrier Grin

Is he ok?

Crzy · 19/08/2023 01:21

@FormerlyPathologicallyHappy didn’t see this until now so sorry for rather late reply! Dcat has recovered fully now after a vet visit for a clean out, X-ray and some antibiotics and painkillers. Vet suspects he was hit with a catapult as kids around here have been going around doing it to birds, windows and cats in area. He is now very wary of going out which tbh works in his favour he’s always liked to roam although he’s neutered and is always just behind the house or in the garden now have filed a police report but I doubt anything will come of it as it never does even when they were catapulting rocks at a newborns window after being asked to stop as the baby’s cot was directly beneath window Hmm

Why are these dreadful children allowed to harm animals? Can’t they be stopped? If not, I would be tempted to furtively give them a good dose of their own medicine.

Sadly I live in an area where most kids seem to be allowed to run feral, it’s not uncommon to see children between 4-10 out alone at any time up until about 11 and if you say anything as I’ve learnt they simply all target you, having had our bathroom window smashed and them attempt to climb into our garden when I wouldn’t open my door to argue with them for zero reason other than I’m the mean lady who reminds them of the consequences of their actions when I see them endangering themselves or others I guess. Wish the police round here weren’t so useless but alas that is life nowadays so I’m not surprised most don’t bother calling for them. Was most shocked to find out police know most of the burglaries and thefts in area are done mt a group of 14/15 year olds yet no action has been taken and these childrens parents don’t seem to care letting them out to continue. Makes me want to move away asap so my own teens can go out as they avoid being out in our town due to the constant harassment they get and how everyone just seems to want to cause trouble as there’s nothing else to do here
