"Minor" grade 4 heart murmur?

Hi

DD has agreed to rehome a cat from the RSPCA, but when he's been for his vet check today they've discovered he has a "minor" grade 4 murmur.

We were under the impression that grade 4 murmurs were quite serious? Is it possible to have a minor grade 4 (he's only a year old) or are they playing it down?

Thank you for all advice.

Can't imagine a vet playing it down! Our kitten had a heart murmur which she grew out of, but the vet did offer various expensive heart scans and so on. Apparently sometimes it can be heard and sometimes not so it might be worth having it rechecked.

Grade 4 is a loud murmur. It could be nothing. But that is pretty unlikely. Grades 1/2 maybe sometimes 3 are more likely to be innocent. Grade 4 and over it’s much more likely it’s something to worry about and at 1 year it’s something that will inevitably cost money.

I would ask them to pay for a cardiac scan to ascertain exactly what the cause of the murmur is and prognosis before agreeing to rehome

Get the cat scanned. My girl had a grade 4 murmur. But no one ever told me it was grace 4 until I found out by accident wren she went for a dental. She had severe HCM. She did well with treatment. But it cost a fortune. Fortunately covered by insurance.

If he turns out to have Heart disease, could she take him on as a long term foster? So vet bills are covered. Was g visit to a cardiologist was about £700 for my pair. And drugs on top.
