First cat - what to ask

Am planning for my first pet cat. What should I be asking the sellers of the cats other than are they healthy/vaccinated/wormed? All the ones I've messaged are offering visits to see kittens with mum (good, I think). What else to look out for? And what cat paraphernalia should I get, other than a carrying thing and some toys? Do cats sleep in beds? (I've never known one sleep in a specific cat bed but maybe some do?). All tips welcome.

Another vote for rescue older kittens/young adult cats here. We recently got two five and a half month kittens from the RSPCA. They cost £100 each, but are neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and have been wormed, flea-treated and fully checked over by a vet - all of which would cost a lot more if you have to organise it yourself. Also, by that age their personalities are starting to become apparent so it’s easier to find a cat or cats that will fit in with you and your home. If you’re not bothered about a particular breed, moggies are generally more robust than pedigrees and a having a healthy cat that is compatible with you is far more important than what it looks like.

A good rescue centre will advise you on what you need to buy and be available to help with any issues that arise after you take your cat home. Some will also have second-hand equipment for sale, which can save a lot of money (we got two cat carriers and a cat tree for under £30 when we picked our two up).
