Cat being neutered on Tuesday, advice?

My lovely rescue black tom cat is being neutered on Tuesday. He is about 8 months.

I feel strangely horrible about it. He is a good cat although slightly agressive sometimes (but its part of his personality). Stays on big terrace or indoors (apartment) in winter.

Any advice gratefully received.

It'll be ok - it's the kindest thing to do for him. Entire toms wander, get hit by cars as they're distracted by trying to get to females, fight and get infections and torn ears... the sad list goes on. You'll be surprised how quickly he bounces back after.

Thank you. Will he have a cone does anyone know? Will his personality change?

My vet told me that the incision in tiny and unless he was bothering it my cat would not need a cone and he didn’t . Also not to let him gulp down lots of water S soon as he got home so he was not sick . His loving personality did not change at all , even purred at the vets at his follow up check up . The hardest thing was he could not understand why he was not allowed outside for so long .

Mine never had a cone. The incisions are tiny so didn't have stitches either.

Thank you all.

My boy was done recently, no cone and healed well. He was fine the following day and back being full of mischief!

My two boys were fine afterwards, they didn't seem to notice that anything had happened! One was a bit mad when he got home, the vet said to keep him in but it wasn't happening, he went out and charged round for an hour or so then came in and went to sleep. The other just carried on with life as normal.

Yes it's they tiniest op for a boy, takes minutes,Hel be fine!no need for cone, will have pain relief it's very quick and simple don't worry.

My boy was fine after his op. He used to try to lick them, then seemed surprised they'd gone.

fetchacloth · 15/07/2023 17:12

It's a very simple quick op for a male cat and he'll be fine afterwards.
My cat didn't have a cone fitted and the stitches dissolved themselves.
