Aibu to feel sad?

About a month ago a cat turned up in our garden. She actually looked like a Maine coon but looked old. She was in a bad way but wasn't at all very friendly and would run away if she even heard any movement.

I gained her trust slightly by feeding her, she didn't run away quite as fast so I contacted a rescue and they put down a trap in my garden.

I'll post a photo of her, she was really cute and had a little overbite which made her quite distinctive.

Sadly a couple of days later a deceased cat was found around my area matching her description. The rescue doesn't seem to think it's the same cat as the facial markings are slightly different but the body is identical, I'm less convinced and whilst I can see where they are coming from with the facial features the cat hasn't been back since which is usual and what are the chances that two distinctive cats live in the same area?

I do believe it's the same cat and it's actually upset me a little bit. I did have a little cry I just wish she knew how much I was trying to help her and it may have ended differently. I feel silly for feeling sad though as she wasn't my cat and I only really saw her a couple of times a day.

Maybe the rescue is right and she will reappear but I very much doubt it.

Sending love OP. She's gorgeous and they got straight to your heart ❤️

Oh poor little darling. You're not being daft at all. Feral cats have a horrible time of it and it's lovely that you were trying to care for her.

It turns out she wasn't feral, she was chipped and the owners picked her up so I'm glad she was finally reunited with her family but just wish we could have gotten her back alive.

I would feel really sad. But glad her owners have closure.

You did your best for her and helped her be reunited with her owners, you did a good thing. They do get under our skin even if they aren't friendly, bless!
