Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas what might be going on here.
I have two rescue cats, both house cats. Adopted at different times.
In the last week or two I noticed a discrepancy in the fur pattern around my male cats lower back/tail area. Didn’t think much of it, just that he’d maybe groomed the area and his fur hadn’t settled.
Last night I noticed it still hadn’t settled back down, so had a proper look and feel of him. He has developed a bald patch near his tail and the skin underneath looks pink/inflamed with some yellow crusted/scabbed areas.
Both my cats are house cats so don’t go outside and we’re treated with the Bravecto Spot on Flear/worming/parasite all in one treatment around three weeks ago - I got it from the vet as my newest addition the female cat had a long stringy thing in her poop, so we wanted to treat as if a parasite rather than leave it. This treatment is quite harsh and says that humans must wear gloves to apply it as skin reactions are common, so wondering if the same could apply to cats.
I didn’t apply it in the area where the bald patch has appeared, it went on the back of his neck, as instructed.
He’s also got two little red areas on his top lip, that look almost like small abrasions - but he had a total dental clearance in January, leaving only his bottom fangs and they do sometimes get caught on his top lip, so I think these marks might just be from the fangs.
He’s possibly gone off his food a bit, he’s not finishing all of his wet food, but still happily doing his best with biscuits and dreamies (he has to swallow them whole due to lack of teeth).
I’m going to call the vets about it, but having had a very traumatic start to this year with my beautiful 2yo Persian boy becoming very sick and dying (despite multiple vet visits and nobody getting to the bottom of the issue), I’m feeling a bit triggered and struggle to tell what is justified anxiety and what is a totally normal occurrence for a cats skin/fur.
Pics attached.
Thank you.
