Adopting a diabetic cat

Hi All,
We are considering adopting a diabetic cat. Her insulin is under control and she is a rescue cat. Anyone got any tips/ is there anything I need to know.

We already have one rescue cat who we've had for 3 years.

Thank you!

Can you afford the vets bills are you will find it tricky to get insurance?

Hi, we have a diabetic cat and the main thing for us is ensuring care for when we go on holiday. Our cat has to be injected with insulin twice a day and it isn’t always easy to find a cat sitter who will do this so I would recommend making sure you have something in place. Also even if not on insulin meal times and diet need to be regulated carefully. There is an extremely helpful Facebook group called UK Feline Diabetes Support which has helped us so much since our cat was diagnosed

Thanks - yes we'll be ok with the vet bills, other rescue cat has issues which aren't covered by insurance so happy to take it on. My brother will also be in charge when on holiday so hopefully that should cover the injections then (although we don't go away much!). Will have a look a the Facebook group thanks 🙂

If you feel you can afford it and manage it, go for it. Not many people would be able too and he might be unlikely to find another home. You sound lovely!
