Tonkinese wrecking carpet, help!

My one year old Tonkinese is very needy (!) I can't have him and my Siamese in the bedroom at night because they start leaping around at 4 a.m! I've been shutting them in the living room but he's wrecking the carpet scratching at it to get out. The door opens into the living room so I can't put anything in front of the door to stop him. Unfortunately it's a rented property, they allow pets, but still aren't going to be pleased!

Two questions: how can I repair the damage? I've already put a wider threshold strip in the doorway, to cover the original damage, but he carried on doing it. Currently I put something hard under the door when I shut it to minimise the damage, but haven't worked out how I can cover all the carpet. And what to do to stop him making it worse?

I've considered shutting them in the kitchen, but then they won't have much room and may also damage the lino on the floor in there 🤷‍♀️

They'll be fine shut in the kitchen as long as they have food, water and their litter.

Thanks. I guess they will be, they're just young and like to play, plus they may wreck the lino.

Mine are all shut downstairs including the 8 week old - they're honestly fine. When I go down to use the toilet they're pretty much always asleep!

I might try it for a night and see what happens. My kitchen is very small. Do you put a blanket on the floor for them?

No, they have donut beds and a cat tree though!

Mine won't sleep in a bed 😂 but I'll put it in there and a blanket too.

Neither do mine but they have them anyway 😂

The kitten actually sleeps in his carrier with a fleece blanket inside - it's how we brought him home and he seems to like it! Obviously the door is open and he can leave but he's always there when I come down ☺️

Oh sympathy! 😂My landing is currently being hard floored since biggest girl cat can kill a carpet in three years and now the kittens are helping her....

The kittens go in the bathroom at night, for everyone else's sanity. (The other cats are elderly and I like to sleep rather than be attacked in the small hours.) At the moment they only have a teddy fleece folded on the floor and they prefer the windowsill anyway, there's a wide windowsill plus another cushioned seat they could be on. In colder weather they have two thick folded blankets in a pad, a teddy fleece rolled blanket at the back between them and the wall. And food, water and toys as well as their tray.

I’m not able to advise without seeing a picture of the offenders. You might be making all this up…
