Collar or no collar?

I have two 20 week old kittens who haven't been outside yet and am nervous about when they eventually do get let out. Do people use collars these days or are they too risky for injuries/getting caught? They have been microchipped.

My cats have always worn collars with a small disc with my address/ number - a felt collar with an elastic insert.

I used those till one cat went missing for 3 weeks, he had got stuck somewhere and it looked like in trying to get free the collar had got wrapped round his leg. He had t9 have it amputated. I think they should be banned.

My 3 inside girls have quick-release collars on, mainly so we can tell them apart, as they are all lilac points!

I'm not sure what we're going to do if/when they go outside, because the collars will have to come off then, but it's so hard to tell them apart when they're running around 😻.

I suppose it's the only v slight positive about Luna losing her eye - we definitely know which one is her!

We don't have collars and sometimes struggle to tell our two lilac points apart, but one is bigger than the other, while the other has a slightly pointier and more delicate face. One also gets a dark patch on his back (especially in summer), while the other has a darker patch on his side plus they sound slightly different. They're called Frasier and Niles - and suit their respective names Wink

Interestingly, there is a debate on the local Facebook about cats that are "not fucking lost" Wink (because people keep on putting up posts asking whether a cat is lost) and there are a few people who keep on saying "why don't they have a collar?". Hmm

I may have quoted bits from this thread Grin

I couldn’t believe it , worse part he had struggled to get it off and got his leg caught . I can bare to think about it several years later . His name was Monty .**

Such a beautiful cat. One of my kittens is also called Monty.
I've lost cats in the past too young, due to cars sadly. Always heartbreaking. x
