Cattery pen sizes

Does anyone know what the rules are on the minimum pen sizes for a cattery? Googling seems to give various but I'm not sure what is the legal requirement is. Local council site does not give specifics for licensing.
I'm concerned because I could not get booked into my usual cattery. I panicked and could not get a space anywhere within 50 miles or even a cat sitter to come to house.
I finally got a space at a cattery but took it because I was desperate at this point. I checked reviews and facebook and they were all glowing with lots of recent pictures and its long established with lots of return customers.
Well I've dropped tootsy off and although the proprieters were lovely, place spotless, documentation all checked etc, I've had a wobble about the sizes of the pens. They were about 1mx1mx1m! There was no shelves, no upstairs or down, no hiding places, kinda like the wall cages you see at the vets. Each cat is let into a shared inside space for a short time. Which seems to be against some of the regulations I've been reading...
It was a bit noisy with mewing cats rubbing up against the bars and I'm just not sure I'm happy. I'm not a silly over sentimental furbaby type person. My regular cattery is very quiet when you go in as the cats are snuggled in or strutting about their "rooms".
Am I being silly? I feel so guilty but I need this holiday.

I wouldn’t like that either.

It’ll probably taint your holiday though and she’ll make you pay when you pick her up. You won’t do it again.

I run a Cattery, this is completely outside the regulations
Pens way too small and shared space a no no
Can you check they are licences on your council list ?

Ok have found it is licensed and up to date. But I dont feel any better. How can the cats be allowed to mix? My cat fights and hates other cats.
