Temporary foster care for mum and kittens

Hello

For reference I have one male cat aged 6.

A mother cat and her 5 kittens were dumped near me, I took them in and to the vet. I did contact some rescues and they are under the care of one of them but I am fostering them.

anyway, they are being kept separate to my male cat, and the kittens are estimated at being 9 weeks. Pretty healthy as per the vet.

I think I want to keep one of them or one kitten and the mother cat but wanted some advice on what is the best way to go about it. I certainly can’t adopt all 6 as much as I may want to.

My male cat is neutered and has lived with other cats before I rescued him, but I’m not sure if male or female kitten is a better idea or if keeping mum and a kitten is a good idea. Ultimately I just want what is best for all the cats.
many thanks

Keeping the mum and kitten is a lovely idea and well done for taking all of them in and looking after them. I always think it's better to introduce opposite sex kittens/cats to existing cats so I would keep the mum and a female kitten if I were you. If your male cat has lived with other cats before he should be fine eventually even if there is a bit of hissing and spitting at first.

If you can, please try to keep the mother cat as she will be harder to re-home than the kittens.
