Grooming elderly cat

My cat is 18 and starting to look a bit dishevelled so I've bought a cat brush to help her, is there such a thing as grooming them too much? Any tips? Worried about ruining her natural oils if that's a thing.

She seems to like it, but has gone quite thin so I'm only doing it very gently.

Oh bless. I’m no expert but my very old cat seemed to appreciate similar and I just carried on until she gave me a sign she’d had enough.

My sister had a cat of 21 and he stopped grooming himself. She used to wash his face every morning with a bit of kitchen roll dipped in warm water and wipe over his eyes and head. I have a long haired cat and he needs help to groom himself. He gets tangled fur under his leg pits at the front.

Thank you both, I'll just carry on as I am then for now.

If your cat is anything like mine, he'll bite you when he's had enough 😁
