Lost my girl today

15 years old, bad hips, stopped eating, vet diagnosed her with kidney failure. I took the decision to end her pain. But oh my. I am so going to miss her. She was such a lady - you had to work to get her to sit on your lap. Once she did, I was pinned down for hours until I had to move, then she was disgruntled and swished her tail as she walked away.

She was such a good girl.

😢😢😢😢😢

I’m sorry, it hurts so much. Where is she now?

BirdIsland · 30/06/2023 17:08

I'm so sorry 💐 You did the right thing, making such a heartbreaking decision, so that she doesn't have to suffer. It is so tough to lose a pet, they are part of the family. Remember that you looked after her until the very end so that all she knew was comfort and love x

bereft23 · 30/06/2023 17:18

Thank you. I left her at the vets and she will be returned in a cat shaped urn.

And yes, I know I made the right decision.

She didn't eat this morning, even turned her nose up at tuna. She also wanted to go out, something she hasn't wanted for at least 6 months. I let her out the back door, worrying that she was going to find herself a corner and let go. But she came back in, then meowed and just looked at me. She couldn't sit down properly and I thought she needed stronger arthritis medication. But the vet said she was in kidney failure so I knew it was time.

She was a good girl.

I am so sorry OP...heart rending but absolutly the right thing to do- the kindest thing to do

What is her name?

bereft23 · 30/06/2023 17:44

Gatekeeper

Her name was Mo, often lengthened to Mojo, or more often 'no don't do that, FGS'.

You were right but they leave such an aching void behind them.

Mo knew you loved her.

I'm sorry for your loss. She knew you loved her and you gave her the best life.

This comment did make me though, as I often lengthen my cats names to things like that, or "not tonight, don't be such a knob" as I'm chasing them round the garden at 11pm in my pyjamas trying to get them in.

Toddlerteaplease · 01/07/2023 11:55

She sounds lovely. And it sounds like it was the right time. RIP Mo.

Pudmyboy · 06/07/2023 14:42

So sorry for your loss, you know you did the right thing, remember the good days and happy times 💐

Fernticket · 08/07/2023 21:13

I know how you feel OP. I have just had to have my 17 year old girl PTS today (tumour in tummy). She was suffering and it was the right decision but I am going to miss her dreadfully.

mcdonaldsfortea · 08/07/2023 21:51

Goodbye lovely mo. It hurts OP but you did the right thing xxxxxxx

Brk · 08/07/2023 22:00

I’m so sorry OP.

Slow messy death, or euthanasia. They’re both shit choices and either path is very hard to tread.

The pain you’re feeling is the price we pay for knowing the love, but that doesn’t help right now I know.

Hugs xx

I'm so sorry, I lost my special boy last Thursday, he was only 11. It bloody hurts :-(

PaigeMatthews · 08/07/2023 22:09

Sorry for your loss op. It is awful. Leaves such a hole. We had to put our first born feline down yesterday. She had kidney failure too and was also 15, and we took her to the vet yesterday as she declined so very much this week and the vet also diagnosed heart failure. Thursday night was so hard as she was crying if she was not being stroked. All through the night. The dog and our other cat both came and led next to her at different points during the night. She will be missed.

IknowYouButIdontLikeYou · 08/07/2023 22:10

So sorry about your lovely Mo. You did the kindest thing by letting her go. You'll miss her, because she was loved. Would you like to show us a picture of her?

My old boy (19) was knocked down by a car last October. We haven't had another cat (the longest time we've ever been without a cat in 43 years).

SoSadForCav · 08/07/2023 22:15

I'm so sorry x

you we're very brave!

lots if live forever you, Mo & everyone else who has lost a loved furry family member xx

morelippy · 08/07/2023 22:16

I'm sorry OP, it's so sad but you sound like you put Mo first, so we'll done. She was lucky to have you x

bereft23 · 09/07/2023 16:36

Hi all, thank you so much for your replies - it has been over a week and I am having to get used to her not appearing randomly around the house.

Here is a pic taken a couple of months ago with a new mollys mouse.

Would love to see pics of your lost ones.

Also I found a local cat rescue and donated cat litter etc to them. That made me feel a bit better.

What a beautiful cat. I have an extra specially soft spot for torties, and tortie and whites because of the lovely pair of sisters I had from kittens to old age. I miss them but they left me many happy memories. As did their successors.

Time is the best healer, OP. It will get easier as time goes by.
