Cat and motor oil

One of my cats likes to sleep under cars. I don’t love this because I worry about him getting run over but I can’t stop him.

He frequently comes in with smears of oil on him, usually on his face. Should I be trying to clean these off or am I ok to leave him to wash himself? He wouldn’t take kindly to soap and water I don’t think but I don’t want him to be ill.

It is toxic to cats, presumably it’s just the odd smudge rather than a big wet dollop of it?
If it’s just a bit, could you rub it off with a damp cloth with a bit of fairy on it then rub again with a cloth with clean water on to finish?

Oh yes @CheckEngineLight (apt username!) it’s just the odd smudge. If he arrived covered in it I would try to get it off!

I will try your suggestion of two cloths, thank you.

Mine is the same, but one day he came in absolutely covered in it. I tried to bath him as it's very toxic. He is not the most docile cat and fought every step of the way.
I ended up taking him to the vets. They have a special pet shower room.
The nurses said' hes such a sweetheart, we can do anything with him'!!!
He did look lovely afterwards though, so fluffy. He is mostly white though.
