Both cats not come home

I've messed up. Our cats only really go outside when we are around, with the door open, they haven't learned to use the cat flap at the age of 3. All previous cats have been able to come and go (and lived to ages 19 and 21 etc) but just didn't get these ones outside I can't explain why...

Last night I thought they were in and had gone upstairs, but clearly not. I shut the door. I locked them out.

They haven't come home, I've been out calling for them and the door has been open for 2 hours.

Live on the edge of a small town, so it feels villagey really, road isn't busy, next to a field that has goats in it so things to scare them off if they went a little further than usual.

It's too early to be really worried isn't it? They are DH's cats really and he is going to be gutted but is staying silent about it for now.

They're cats, they'll be fine and back soon. Don't worry! It's so hot today, they are probably sleeping in a bush/shade hidden ing from the sun.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 25/06/2023 10:33

It's always a worry, but hopefully they're not far. One of mine always goes on manoeuvres if we have a run of warm weather - less need to get back for shelter, and windows and doors are open so she goes on the scrounge despite being well fed. We have a few times put a shout out on the neighbourhood chats to see who's seen her. She comes back when the weather turns.

Luvvies · 25/06/2023 10:36

Thank you I just thought they must be hungry by now! They definitely wouldn't go to anyone for food. I'm planning to post on FB if they aren't home by 12

Still nothing. Going to drop a note in local houses asking them to look in sheds. And have posted on FB. It's reall unusual, especially as boycat really likes his food!

Oh dear. The fact neither has come back seems positive though. I'll keep my fingers crossed, they look beautiful.

Floralnomad · 25/06/2023 15:44

Fingers crossed that they come home soon 🤞🏻

jaffacakeany1 · 25/06/2023 15:45

My cats dissappear throughout the day when it's hot like this,(I have 3 and haven't seen them hardly at all today). I think they find somewhere cool and just sleep. Also, the heat affects their appetite, so they probably don't feel hungry just yet. I'm sure once it cools down they'll come looking for food.

Thank you for the reassurances I'm holding onto these theories

I don't know where you are but it's pelting it down here. Hopefully a rain storm will encourage them to come home Flowers

Please let us know when they get home 🐈🐈

Icequeen01 · 25/06/2023 16:23

Two out of my three cats haven't been seen today. I'm honestly not worried. It's so hot they will be somewhere cool. I'm sure they will be home as soon as the sun goes down.

IJustHadToLookHavingReadTheBook · 25/06/2023 16:35

One of our cats wandered off MILES away last autumn. No exaggeration - it was about a mile and a half up a main road to an A Road. He just fancied an adventure, clearly.

Someone phoned me because my number was on his collar, but I'm sure he would have come back. Cats are very clever in that regard.

I've AirTagged the little buggers now!

RandomMess · 25/06/2023 16:45

Have you litter trays you can put outside?

Springbecamethesummer · 25/06/2023 16:47

This is quite typical of my cats in this weather. They usually come back when hungry, l think mine find somewhere cool to sleep in the day, three are still quite young and My eldest one is nowhere to be seen when it's hot. They are probably a lot more active in the night this time of year, mine keep bringing in little frogs which l release back into the nearby woods.
They are bound to be together, keep busy and they will show up once it's cooled down abit.

Thank you all yes I'll put a litter tray out. They really are mostly indoor cats and only go out when we are here with the back door open. I just feel so bad because I thought they were in when I locked up, they sleep with my husband and he had already gone up so I assumed they were with him as they always trot upstairs with him.

Hoping the litter tray does the trick 🤞

Any news @Luvvies ? Hopefully your cats are safe home by now!

Freysimo · 26/06/2023 08:19

Hope you have some news today. I had one cat go missing for a week (suspect she'd been shut in a shed) and another for three days (tracked him down to neighbour's house, they'd gone away and he'd slipped inside before e they locked the door). Don't give up hope 🤞

EllaRaines · 26/06/2023 08:49

Are you sure they haven't got back inside and are asleep under a bed etc

I once had a cat go missing for over two weeks come back.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 26/06/2023 10:25

Oh I hope they're back soon. Definitely post on local boards. If you have the time, drop leaflets through doors - I think people are more likely to keep a leaflet than take notice of a poster. When one of ours went missing for two weeks that's how we found her - someone posted that she'd been visiting them daily on a local board and was she missing. Someone we'd leafleted gave them my number, and the lovely lady she'd been visiting then kept her in for me to collect. Good luck.

ThursdayFreedom · 26/06/2023 10:29

Definitely paper leaflets, doirs & on lampposts.

I don't do Facebook or any local sites, so I'd only know via a leaflet (or a friend maybe)

I hope they amble in soon with that 'what??' Look about them!!

booksandcats22 · 26/06/2023 10:30

Keeping fingers crossed for you that they both return soon

Luvvies · 26/06/2023 12:03

Thank you all! They are HOME!!!!!
Ziggy came in about 10:30 last night, flaked on the floor then drank a lot of water. Then spent a lot of time walking around the house. Looking for Lulu I'm sure. Has stayed in since.
I propped open the cat flap and Lulu came in at 08.00 this morning and was all 'what?'. Had a drink then half an hour later went back out again. (We decided we should let them come and go now and have to be brave)
But what a relief

I'm pretty sure it's on old wives tale, but we've always put butter on their paws before they've gone out, and they've never got lost yet. 😆 Glad they came home safe.
