What do we name our new kitten?

Our last beloved cat was called Clarkson, because he was egocentric, bolshy , had a bit of an attitude and wasn't the most photogenic creature. He lived to 12 which given he had a heart condition from birth was pretty good going.
We've had a petless gap of about nine months and have just adopted a new feline leader.
We've thrown quite a few names around but nothing seems to stick/suit.
DS (4) wants to call him whatever is in his line of sight at the time, and DH wants to call him Tabaxi after a species of cat people from his very niche/outing Mumsnet DH hobby Dungeons and Dragons. I think it's a bit much and not something I want to be calling out of the back door.
We don't really want standard Felix, Tigger, fluffy type names.
Any thoughts?

Rocket (Rocky as nn)

Toddlerteaplease · 23/06/2023 22:47

@RagingWoke velociraptor is a brilliant cat name. 😂

TomatoSandwiches · 23/06/2023 22:53

Mau, the ancient Egyptian word for cat.

Grazyna80 · 23/06/2023 23:07

Diesel. He’s so cute.

midnights0 · 23/06/2023 23:09

Looks just like my boy, Bruno

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 23/06/2023 23:24

Rory - bet he sees himself as a lion who roars!

KnickerlessParsons · 23/06/2023 23:52

He looks like a Leonard to me

stardust40 · 23/06/2023 23:52

So DS has made some more suggestions this morning, the first two were atmosphere and asteroid (space phase), I might be able to get on with with the third choice Cosmo

Excuse my ignorance but what’s the Egyptian connection with a part-Bengal cat?
beautiful kitten. Norman.

Anoushkaka · 24/06/2023 08:24

Baxter

MargotDeWitt · 24/06/2023 08:28

He is small and cute. I would follow your previous theme and call him Hammond.

stickygotstuck · 24/06/2023 08:30

Tabaxi is perfect.
You can always call him Baxi for short.

AutumnNymph · 24/06/2023 08:33

For some reason Calcutta (a nod to Bengal) popped in my head as soon as I saw the photo and has stuck.

sashh · 24/06/2023 08:34

Robin.

I have a cat who was a stay but looks like she is part Bengal. She loves hunting robins.

I was chatting with someone who has two half Bengals (breeder's queen got out and had a good time) apparently they also hunt robins.

So Robin Hunter?

What about Fluffkins?? Suggested by my 9 year old daughter Smile

Mau, the ancient Egyptian word for cat.

@TomatoSandwiches

wouldnt you feel like a right twat calling 'mau mau' (meow meow)???

@WhatDoWeCallHim trouble is I'd never call for 'tabaxi' and I'd feel a twat calling for 'tab, tabby'. Baxi would be ok, but I can see myself calling 'taxi' 😂😂

Hes absolutely stunning (so don't call him Martin or Robert!!)

I love cats, but I'm not actually a huge kitten fan, he's the first kitten in a very long time that's made me think 'hmmm, cute, maybe...'

I like human names & like George.

Does DH have any other suggestions from his gaming life?

WhatDoWeCallHim · 24/06/2023 08:55

I love the name George but it was my Grandad's name , he passed relatively recently and my gran visits and stays with us, it feels a bit disrespectful when it's an animal namesake.
I also like Ziggy but a friend's son has that name

I'm on the fence about Tabaxi largely as PP said not sure the full name would get used and then you've just got a cat called tabby, although Baxter suggested above could work as a NN

Since the Tom Hanks film I love the idea of Otto for a cat or dog. Or he could be an Ozzy.

TroysMammy · 24/06/2023 09:08

I read somewhere, maybe on MN, that someone called their cat Taxi which would be amusing when calling the cat in.

legalalien · 24/06/2023 09:36

I think Chaotic Evil would be a good name for a cat. Probably not something you want to call from the back door though.

picking up on the Mau idea and the M marking, Maurice, Maurus, Mauritius?

BlissedOutCat · 24/06/2023 09:41

I have no idea, but he is very beautiful.
