Any other cats take medication like this?

My parents show the cat the syringe and he opens his mouth and takes it with no issue. I am absolutely astounded!! My two are very chilled and somewhat cooperative. But they won't do that!!!

I wish he did its a nightmare giving my cat medication. Have to crush tablets into a powder and put into dinner. He won't let me put the stuff for fleas onto his neck either. I'm sure he has fleas not sure what to do.

One of ours used to. She was on Metacam for arthritis and would come over and suck it out of the syringe as soon as she saw it. I was nearly tempted to taste it myself. She was an absolute dote, that one.

The others have all been normal cats and you'd a large blanket and armour to medicate them for anything.

007DoubleOSeven · 21/06/2023 17:56

Apparently metacam tastes like honey.

Never had a cat that willing though!

Theunamedcat · 21/06/2023 17:59

I have two cats that are in love with metacam and a third who refuses it point blank I have two out of three who will pick up and chew capsules happily only one is the same cat

That's both brilliant and hilarious.
Two of my cats are fairly co operative. One of the others had a check up today and I took advantage of the extra hands to finally get the wormer on her. She's highly resistant to anything suss. Was weirdly friendly to the vet though and rolled over for tummy tickles. Making my story about how difficult she was to handle much less believable 😂😂

Yes as per a poster above my older cat comes to me for his Metacam which he willing licks off the plunger thingy. He as an arthritic hip and knows his pain goes with this.

Kakibob1924 · 21/06/2023 18:03

Willingly

ThatsACoolShirt · 21/06/2023 18:10

I’m a vet nurse and we do see a few cats that do this for medication in a syringe. Then there are the ones that need 3 of us to administer medicine too.

I have only ever owned cats that fight any medication.

Mumof1andacat · 21/06/2023 18:11

Never had to syringe medication, but I had a cat that would willingly take tablets as if they were a cat treats.

PriamFarrl · 21/06/2023 18:12

My girl was on daily tablets. We used a product called Giver Cat. It’s like putty made from meat. You wrap the tablet in it and give it as a treat. She loved it.

AnnaMagnani · 21/06/2023 18:12

I've had one that was so food motivated we could chuck tablets on the floor and she would hoover them up like treats.

Endeavormorse · 21/06/2023 18:39

Recently gave my kitten Metacam which he sucked out of the syringe and antibiotic tablets which he just ate out of my hand!

Pashazade · 21/06/2023 18:43

@Nicklebox my cat has Credelio flea and tick treatment. It comes in tablet form and I just crush it and mix with a tube of Lick E Lix. It's not the cheapest but is very good, I only really use it April to October, so I figure it balances out over the year!

It is metacam.

I used to give the late Maia 8 pills a day. She didn't fight them, and would only spit out if they didn't get swallowed on the first go. But she'd never voluntarily take them.

Bizarrely, though he takes medication like a charm, getting a spot on in him requires a military operation.

I haven’t needed to yet.

But it is worth having a look at Billi the talking cat on YouTube - she knows she has to eat her meds before food!

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 21/06/2023 21:17

I have 2 cats. The metacam is the business. One cat is currently getting it due to infection after a vets trip yesterday but I have to placate the other cat with an old syringe as I give one the real thing and the other gets some water. It's seen as a treat.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 21/06/2023 21:26

I have a cat who needs 3 reasonably large pills daily. He sits politely and takes them easily - if I forget he comes and reminds me that it's tablet time.

I had another cat who needed three people (vet, assistant and receptionist) to hold her down in order for her to take a single tiny tablet Grin
