My old girl is missing

My sweet old girl has gone missing, I'm not sure how long for as we went away for the weekend, but I last saw her Friday evening. I'm just heartbroken, she's not in good health and I'm just worried she's taken herself off somewhere, this is so out of character, she usually barely leaves the house. I've had her since she was 8 weeks old and she's now 16.

I'm not sure why I'm posting, just because I'm sad and I miss her and I just have a feeling she won't be coming home. She's been with me all my adult life and I didn't say goodbye to her.

Who was looking after her for the weekend? Have they not seen her at all?
Put messages on Facebook groups and Nextdoor app asking people to check sheds and garages.
Go out and walk the streets calling her, your voice will carry further in the quiet with less traffic so it may prompt her to come back or help her find her way if she’s confused or lost.

I hope she comes back soon?

WhichWitchWillBeWhich · 18/06/2023 22:35

I’m sure she’s just in a strop because you dared to leave her, I’m sure she’ll be back soon once she knows you’re back.
But in the meantime put your hoover contents or litter tray contents outside so she can sniff her way back in case she’s wandered too far. Also put a note through neighbours doors in case she’s got shut in a shed or something.

Hope she’s back soon 🤞

ZebraDilemma · 18/06/2023 22:35

What arrangements had you made for her care while you were away?

BirdIsland · 19/06/2023 05:24

My mum was coming in to feed them, she mentioned on Saturday that she hadn't seen her, but I just assumed my old girl was out keeping cool in the garden somewhere. We also have a camera on the garden, and she's not been caught on there at all, she usually just lays around the back garden close to the house.

I'll put Hoover contents out, and I've been out calling her but nothing. I feel like I've let her down ☹️

You haven’t let her down, you only went for the weekend.
It’s such a horrible feeling when they go missing. I hope today is the day she comes back 🤞

WhichWitchWillBeWhich · 19/06/2023 14:51

ps you have checked the house haven’t you? The fact she wasn’t picked up on camera is a weird one. My elderly cat went missing once and my DS found her curled up under his bed wedged in between the legs of his football table 😆

BirdIsland · 19/06/2023 15:45

Checked everywhere in the house, she's definitely not in there and it's been almost three days now since we saw her.

She's old and not in great health (IBD) so part of me thinks she's just gone somewhere to die, but on the other hand she was perfectly ok and in no way deteriorating when we saw her last. I just keep hoping I'll see her trotting up the garden path 😢

My cat went missing once, for about 2/3 days. She was in one of the kitchen drawers. I was folding towles and putting them staright in to the drawer, She'd jumped down to the (luckily empty) drawer below when my back was turned. I really hope she turns up soon OP. It's horrible when they go missing. I'd put notes through neighbours doors incase she's locked in a shed or garage.

You poor thing, I understand how it feels. Hoping things work out x Flowers

Topseyt123 · 19/06/2023 16:12

Hope she turns up soon. It's awful when they go off and you've no idea where. It's one of the reasons I can't face getting another cat.

Fingers crossed for good news soon.

BirdIsland · 19/06/2023 18:59

Thank you for everyone's kind words. There is still no sign of her and my last sliver of hope (some neighbours who were away) has gone because they're now back and have checked everywhere, and it turns out they were away before she went missing anyway.

I'm going to do flyers tomorrow (first access to a printer) but I've spoken to everyone I realistically think she could have got to. I'm just totally heartbroken, there is no way she'd stay away like this voluntarily. I miss her so much.

Fingers still crossed for you.

ZebraDilemma · 19/06/2023 19:13

Hope your cat is home soon OP, don’t give up hope.

WhichWitchWillBeWhich · 19/06/2023 23:14

I assume she’s microchipped? You need to contact the microchip company and register her as missing. Also phone around the local vets tomorrow in case someone has handed her in and her chip has failed.

Any news @BirdIsland?

BirdIsland · 21/06/2023 22:02

Oh my goodness @WhichWitchWillBeWhich, thank you for asking! Amazingly she waltzed in at 3am this morning, meowing and hungry but other than that totally fine! She's even skinnier than she was, but seems pretty chilled out, not distressed or hurt, so I have no idea where she's been or what she's been up to.

Honestly I am just so amazed that she's back, I genuinely thought I wouldn't see her again. I keep cuddling her and she is most put out by it 😂

That is fantastic news! So glad she’s back.

caringcarer · 21/06/2023 22:30

I'm so glad she's home safely with you again. She was probably off sulking somewhere because you dared to have a weekend break.

WhichWitchWillBeWhich · 21/06/2023 22:32

That's fantastic news. I take it she's now grounded forever while she enjoys her retirement??

cassiatwenty · 21/06/2023 22:47

Such good news 🙂

RandomMess · 21/06/2023 23:19

Fantastic 💕😻

Threetoedsloth · 22/06/2023 00:07

What marvellous news. I have been checking and rechecking and I am delighted she's home. Keep cuddling her, no matter how disgruntled she is!

justcantgetenough · 22/06/2023 00:24

Oh bless that's great news, I'm so happy for you.

My 18 year old cat a few years back, disappeared and I never saw her again, it's the not knowing what happened to her.

Topseyt123 · 22/06/2023 01:22

That is such good news.
