Should I bathe my cat?

She's come home tonight absolutely reeking of what I'm guessing is fox piss. She has form for rolling in stinky things, but this is the worst it's ever been.

Should I give her a bath? She'll fucking hate me and will probably be traumatised for life. But I'm not exaggerating when I say she is stinking the house out!

If it's fox then I think it's ketchup you need

What? How would that even work?

Pretty sure water doesn't get rid of the fox smell and you need to wash them in ketchup because it neutralises it.

I've never had to try though.

Yes I would, if it's that bad, she'll only hate you until she's dry.

I had to bathe one of my cats when it came home covered in something like engine oil. It wasn't as terrifying as I'd imagined, I came away with minor injuries.

You can get a foam shampoo for cats. We had it for my old cat who had toilet issues.
It's not very wet and dries quickly. Plus it's safe for them if they kick themselves.

Yes to ketchup for anything foxy!
I have a springer who thinks fox poo is like Chanel No 5!!

The alkalinity in the ketchup works against the acidity in the fox stuff (or the other way round!)

Like everyone has said, normal shampoo won't cut it - you need ketchup! Wash in ketchup, rinse, maybe wash again if it's bad, then wash using a very gentle baby shampoo then rinse again.

Good luck 😂

We had to bathe a cat once. It was a two adult job and no one came away happy!! But needs must

I used to bathe my elderly cat because she would suddenly sit down in the litter tray and get her rear end covered in poo and couldn't wash any more. She would miaow pitifully. I felt so guilty. But my DS bathes his pedigree cats all the time and they don't mind at all.

I'm really keen to see how this goes! 😆
