I thought my cat was intelligent. Dh doesn’t think so.

So Toots last night refused to come in when we called her. 3 times we tried, and 3 times she legged it, so we left her outside.

Dh tends to sleep downstairs and he was woken up by the cat scratching at the glass of the back door to be let in.

Dh like the good little cat slave, got up and let her in before going back to sleep.

Now I think she was being really smart. She said she wanted to come in, and she came in. Dh think she’s a pain in the arse because she wouldn’t come in when she called and then woke him up by doing that Grin

So in your title you say you think the cat is intelligent and your DH thinks the cat is stupid. In your post you say you think the cat is intelligent (correct) and your DH thinks the cat is a pain in the arse (also correct). No evidence that the cat is stupid! One could argue your DH was stupid for getting up to let her in, but we absolutely all would do the same thing, and the cats know it.

Of course she's not coming to come in when you want her to, no self-respecting cat is going to do that.

She is both extremely intelligent and also a massive pain in the arse. She knows full well that there is no need for her to come in when called if she doesn't feel like it because she will be able to demand entry at a time convenient to her, so why should she cut short her evening explorations just because you want her to?

Our cat is fed at the same time as being shut in for the night, so she comes in because she is hungry.

My cat is fed at 3.30 and don’t you bloody know it.

Its dd’s job to feed her Grin

She usually comes running in when we shake the dreamy tub but not this time

Like a PP, from your post I see no evidence of a stupid cat

DP now...

I'd say DP is projecting much.

I was saying to DH today how our female cat sits on the patio table till the early hours some nights in the summer. If we tap on the door she looks..then looks away . You can see the look of disdain on her face ,the “well if you think I’m coming in to suit you , you can naff right off”

Then saunter in and demand supper because male cat has eaten all the pies.

Good job we love them eh?
