My cat has lost his meow

Has anyone experienced this? He is 5, in good health, eating fine and acting normal.

He is either silently meowing or letting out a very little squeak.

We have just been on holiday for a week and came back yesterday morning, he stayed with a neighbour who didn't notice anything.

Watching this. Mine is 4 this year and the same thing.

My 15 year old cat lost her voice. I rang the vet who said if she seems in discomfort bring her in, but she seemed totally normal in herself except for her tiny squeak. Her voice gradually came back over a few months and is now as loud as ever, so I'll never know why she lost her voice. Cats are strange little things.

Interesting you have been away.

My cat lost her voice when we were away and she was in the cattery for a week. When we picked her up she was backed into a corner yowling her head off. She must have been so distressed. I’d asked them to leave her carrier in as she a nervous cat and needs to be able to hide but they had taken it out.
I’ve not been away since! Her voice came back within a couple of days so it was just hoarseness from yowling so much.

Mine have all lost their meows at some point or another.

It never seemed to bother them and they were all fine within a few days.
