New cat not coming in

We adopted a mum & daughter in February, who were both very nervous. Their history was that they were found in a shed last September.

Mum gradually came out of her shell, but daughter was still very nervy and jumpy.
We let mum out at the end of April and she was great, coming back and comes running when we shout.

We started letting daughter out a few days ago with mum, she was alright at first staying close to her and rushing back in the house when hearing a strange noise. However she went out yesterday morning and then was no where to be seen. I did spot her when we got home from work but she refused to come in, we tried grabbing her (she was in next door neighbours garden) but as she's so nervy she was just running away.

She's been out overnight all by herself and no sign of her this morning 💔 we're so gutted but don't know what to do if she doesn't want to come home. She's only 10 months old but very weary of everyone so it's not like she's going to find another home 😪

I would ask neighbours to check that the little one has not been inadvertently locked in a shed/garage (mine was a few days ago). Is she chipped and has a collar with contact details?

Don't worry.
It's most likely that she is exploring her new territory and will come back when she's ready (hungry).
It's also summer and the best behaved cats sometimes go awol for a night or two when the evenings are light and warm.
Does she have a litter tray? Preferably that has been used? Put it outside - the smell will help her locate home if she's got disorientated.

Has she been fixed?

caringcarer · 02/06/2023 10:42

Is she neutered? If not she'll come home pregnant.

MissCalamity · 02/06/2023 13:06

Yes she's neutered & chipped, no collar as we couldn't get close to her to get one on. All the neighbours know as we have a WhatsApp group & have also put her on a fb group for the surrounding roads.

She does use the litter tray but if she's not used it since the early hours of yesterday morning, I suspect my DP may have changed it since then.

We're just all so sad we seem to have let her down as she's had such a crap start in life 😔
