Hangry Cat

Our cat is a big lad and regularly cons his way to 6 sachets a day. The vet has said we have to reduce to 4. Thing is he gets hangry, really quite mean, when he wants fed. Gets very focused and goes for bare legs. Short of wearing wellies....any ideas?

You can get biscuits that help keep them fuller for longer

What's your meat content on the sachets? I found higher meat content=fuller cat (for one not the other he is a dustbin)

Great advice to go for a very high meat content! I buy cans in bulk on zooplus, works out much cheaper than sachets.

I feed 3 times a day but small portions. I mix in some warm water as he isn't great at drinking. Most importantly his bowl looks more full!

I hide maybe 12 pieces of grain free kibble between two rooms after each meal so he has to hunt and jump for it.

Licki mats and food puzzles are also great, he's way more satisfied when he's had to work for his food.

Mine was extremely food motivated (a very nice way of saying it). I still have child locks on all the cupboards because he will eat ANYTHING but no more food aggression thankfully. It took forever so stay firm...

Mine also loves ankle attacks when he feels like it, I let out a big OW like it really hurts (it does sometimes!) and if he keeps at it I try to redirect. My cat know when I say "psh wsh wsh" and point at the window there's a pigeon on the ledge and he'll go into stealth mode. So when he's hell bent on my legs I do the "psh wsh wsh" and then distract with a toy. I'd try figure out a good redirection for your cat that doesn't involve food. His favourite toy?

Hard work 😅Good luck!

Give him more protein - cook some chicken and/or fish, give him tinned fish (not in brine).
