I’m a dog mum through and through. I’ve had dogs all my life and have always said I would never have any pet other than a dog however, due to a recent family bereavement and no one else able to take her, we have dcat.

She’s two years old and the tiniest little thing. Everyone who has met her thinks she is a kitten. We know the weeks before she came to us must have been traumatic for her and as we have a large dog, who has no experience of cats, I really wasn’t sure that we were the best home for her - but here she is.

Shes been here six weeks. We have been completely taken over by litter trays, cat trees, scratch posts, feeding dishes and the rest. How can someone so small need so much equipment and how can someone so small take over a household so completely. She is so sweet, gentle and affectionate. She has ddog completely won over and she’s stolen my heart. I’m definitely a cat person now.

It’s a whole new world!

She's very cute! I volunteer at CP and we get cats in whose owners have died or gone into care and I always feel so sad for them having their life changed but don't understand why. Some adapt well, others don't. Your new boss looks like she has settled in quite well!
Our cat loves the little yeow fish. I think they're known as sardines bit not sardines shaped. You can buy individually or in a tin of 3

She's adorable OP 😻

Welcome to the cat slave gang!

Have you planted any cat nip yet? You can buy seeds on Amazon. A cat on cat nip is very entertaining. You can buy toys with cat nip inside that are very popular with most felines.

Allergictoironing · 20/05/2023 10:55

Seconding the Yeoww catnip toys. Mine like the giant banana best, closely followed by the large fish one - possibly because the larger the toy, the more catnip in it! Girlcat likes the longer ones as she can lie on them & get catnip on more of her than the fatter, rounder ones.

‘She’s not allowed to sleep in our bedroom ….’

I give you a week. 😆

MyEyesAreBleeding · 20/05/2023 11:00

She's gorgeous. So glad you've been converted.. Sorry for your loss.

Oh she's beautiful! Welcome to the grey cat owners club. 😍

My resident grey cat, Kiska. She rule with iron paw.

It’s a whole new world!

Grin

DD keeps her door closed , this is a huge source of anger and a challenge to our FemaleCat .
She sits outside DD's door and miaows at me until I gently push the door open.

DD is gently woken by purring and a paw to the forehead. If she's ignored the claws are employed .
MaleCat jumps up on our bed at 5am , purrs like an engine and demands a "Hello" and a chinrub.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 20/05/2023 12:28

Eventually she will sleep on the bed if she wants to. We all started off saying the cat wont be sleeping on the bed.

Jellycatbat20 · 20/05/2023 13:26

Has anyone mentioned Dreamies yet? Though to be fair not all cats like them. Our two also love the purple King brushes, I've forgotten the exact name despite our having one in every room.

These days cost of living is eating up every penny but before things went sky high one of the reasons I never had much money was buying toys for the cats...the three layer thing with balls you can chase round and round the circle, crinkly balls, DaBird, anything with catnip, scratchy posts and boards (Simon's Cat being the favourite) and their current favourite, the butterfly on a spring that twirls round and round. Your life will never be the same again...!

Toddlerteaplease · 20/05/2023 16:07

Did you want to lie down? This is your bed? Really?

@Vinorosso74 my ds3 (16) wanted to volunteer at our local animal shelter but it would be a 40 minute round trip for me to drop him off and pick him up. It’s just too far, so he’s in a charity shop in town. Until now I have avoided saying, as it’s outing if anyone knows me, but it was my dss2 that died suddenly leaving dcat on her own. She had not been given food or water for around 10 days when we found her. We weren’t sure we’d find her alive. Dss1 and dsd already have cats and dogs so couldn’t take her but dsd has been great at giving me bits and pieces and advice to start me off. She has settled in so well.

@maranella @Allergictoironing Some catnip came with her scratch board so I have deployed some on her tree. I will get some catnip toys when my next subscribe and save is due so that they can slip in under dh’s radar. He has mentioned more than once that she doesn’t need anything else.

@DeadButDelicious Kisha is beautiful.

@LostCats @70isaLimitNotaTarget @FormerlyPathologicallyHappy If it was up to me she would be sleeping in the bed but dh believes that dogs should sleep in the shed and cats are to deal with farmyard mice! However she is winning him over 🥰

@Jellycatbat20 She arrived with a couple of packets of dreamies. I give them to her last thing at night when ddog gets his beddy biscuits (yes really)!

@Toddlerteaplease Awe, lovely.

I will put a weeks wages on your husband cracking first. 🤣🤣

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/05/2023 21:10

DH is the cats' favourite person in the house (though MaleCat loves DD like obsession)
DH will play with the laser light for ages for MaleCat to chase ( FemaleCat thinks chasing a light is just too daft for words- she's far too Busy'n'Important photobombing DH's zoom meetings )
Or it's "D'you want Magpies For Cats on the big telly ?"

Threeboysadogandacat · 20/05/2023 21:57

@Toddlerteaplease Yes, it was dh that cracked first with ddog. I was happy to go up and down setting him for a few night although I love him sleeping in the bedroom now.

@70isaLimitNotaTarget Ds2 is dcat’s favourite. He looked after her in his bedroom for the first week she was here until we got her properly introduced to ddog. She shoots off in there whenever he opens his door and often attends his work meetings.
