What is this mark in my cats eye?

My cat has had this mark on eye for a little while (we only noticed it recently). He never had it before so it has appeared in the last few months. Does it require a trip to the vet?? He seems fine in himself no issues atall. It has gotten a bit bigger recently too. See picture below

How strange. I was thinking it would be a scratch on the cornea - my cat had that, and had to have eyedrops for a few weeks (that was fun). But its not a scratch, its a blob. I'm still thinking something has damaged the surface of the cornea - you probably do need a vet at least to monitor it. They told me that damage to the surface of the cornea goes one of two ways - with any luck it will heal up by itself with no complications (as my cat's did) but if you're unlucky it can ulcerate. That's why they gave us drops to promote the healing.

I don't know, but my 15 year old cat developed brown spots in her eye over a few weeks. The vet said it was the equivalent of a freckle caused by sun damage, and to keep an eye on it. It did get worse but didn't seem to bother her. She died a year later of kidney failure.

Sorry, forgot to say I would take him to the vet

My cat had one they can be something that comes with age and harmless but certain types can indicate cancer I believe. If your cat is otherwise healthy I wouldn't worry but maybe just get it checked. My cat was an old boy so just age.

I would take him to the vet. My cat had a scratch to the cornea that looked very much like this. The vet said it put him at risk of certain cancers so I would get it checked out so you know what you’re dealing with.

My cat has had this the past two years or so and the vet said it's fine.

My cat has one in her eye, in our case it is a tumour - but a benign one. The vet said that while it looks flat and doesn't affect the pupils ability to dilate/contract with the sun then all is ok.
