How to move the litter box?

We've had our cat for 2 years, since we've had her the litter tray has always been in the upstairs bathroom. However I'm having the bathroom renovated and it's just not going to fit in there anymore so I need to move it to the downstairs toilet room. Is that possible or will she just start weeing all over the house?

There's a couple of things you can try. Firstly put an additional tray at or close to where you want the new tray, and "salt" it with some litter from the old tray. If that doesn't work, leave that one there but start moving the old tray little by little in the direction of the new location, moving it a few inches a day. Some cats will happily just change trays, but some need to be coaxed into the new position.

When Tobias came home a couple of months ago, he was of course using the tray in the bedroom he was shut in. Within a few weeks of getting the run of the house he's started using the downstairs tray for at least his poo with no prompting from me at all though he's still weeing upstairs.
