Caught her!

So we have had a cat pinching our cats food for months. At first we didn't think she was a stray but over time we started thinking she was - was still coming when it was snow outside etc etc. last couple months we think she has been living in our shed (it has a hole at the back)

Well we took the plunge and borrowed a trap to catch her - we got her this morning and whilst it would be nice if she has a home and is just lost we are kind of hoping she doesn't so we can keep her. (We caught a straylast year but he was a boy so had to go for homing as our boy would not have put up with it)

Cattery coming to check her over soon.....

Yes that’s great and very good of you. I’ve never heard of anyone catching a cat before - our locals just stick messages on Nextdoor / Facebook if someone has lost theirs / found a stray.

What a lovely thing to do OP so glad he's been reunited with his owners.

Thank you for doing this OP & reuniting him with his family! Flowers

My boy has been missing for over a year, I really hope someone is looking out for him.

What a great thread, a great kindness to the cat and gives hope to those who are waiting to hear, that maybe someone like @christmastreefarm is looking after their lost ones 💐

Well. The story continues. He escaped out a window last night and made his way back to our garden this evening.

Crikey if you get your cat back after that long surely you shut the windows , have you taken him back again ?

He’s come back to our garden so we are going to go back to feeding him and see what’s happens.

Other cat might be bullying him? We had 2 brothers that we thought adored each other. One was skinny as anything, grazed lightly and then headed out the door to hang out with his mates (cats 2 doors down). The second one was much more timid, and used to eat all the food so was twice the size.

Then our wanderer was hit by a car. When our second one was on his own he stopped over eating, grew in confidence and completely changed personality. Clearly our other cat was dominating him, maybe even subtly bullying him. We had no idea!

Floralnomad · 27/04/2023 11:58

Do his owners know that he is back with you ?

Helenahandkart · 27/04/2023 12:31

No wonder he’s not going home if you’re feeding him. He has a home. Take him back there and don’t feed him. He’s not yours to feed.
Fair enough if he was a stray, but you know he isn’t.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 27/04/2023 13:58

It’s tricky because he’s crossed a main road to get back to you & eventually his lucks going to run out doing that.

Living feral in your garden is more appealing to him that living in his owners house with his brother? Not good. His brother might not have welcomed him back with open paws.

Our neighbour thought their brother pair got on until one died and the remaining cat perked up no end. Literally skipping.

christmastreefarm · 27/04/2023 15:02

@Helenahandkart no way to trap him again without feeding him to get him same
place same time and get him in trap. He returned home himself this morning so they are keeping him again and we will see what happens. I’m worried about him keep returning - he was getting food from others as well - just pops in the catflap or open door so not as easy as saying don’t feed him. It’s a worry if he keeps coming over here if he is let out because his luck will run out on the main road. For those that asked I think his brother is the more dominant one.
