How much cat pet insurance do you pay?

Just a quick question. How much pet insurance do you pay a month for your cat? The quote I have is £5.26 per month or 10 year old rescue cat. That seems cheap to me.

£21 a month but she has a host of health issues, and considering the vet bills would have been into the £1000’s, that’s a bargain as far as I’m concerned!

SecretCoconut · 13/04/2023 15:07

Just over £13 a month for our 12 yr old rescue

Viewfrommyhouse · 13/04/2023 15:09

I was paying £96 a month for 6 moggies. I went to top cover. What lever of cover does that £5.26 get you?

Cuddlecouch · 14/04/2023 06:34

I pay about 29.00 with pet plan for our 5 Yr old and an additional 19 for the vets health pet plan. I'm almost at the point of not being able to afford either but too scared to cancel in case he needs vet treatment. It's just too expensive. Who did it get your quote from?

whirlyhead · 14/04/2023 06:36

£150 for 4 with pet plan. 2 of them have run up a stack of vet bills into the thousands so I don’t begrudge it.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/04/2023 07:28

£118 a month for two indoor cats. Late cat and her sister have run up bills of £23k

Toddlerteaplease · 14/04/2023 07:29

Dreading the renewal this year. As can't afford much more on top of that.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 14/04/2023 07:42

We were paying £48 a month for Harry with Petplan. They paid out a fortune over the years though, especially over the last 6 months.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 14/04/2023 07:45

£37 a month for three indoor moggies (3, 6 and 8) with Tesco on their highest level of cover.

Jessica60 · 14/04/2023 09:07

Everything £80 excess

I was replying to individual posts. Don't know what happened above.

I saw my vet this morning (as my youngest cat runs up another £2k bill) and asked which insurance provider was the best to deal with and she promptly said pet plan.

I’ve been with them nearly 30 years and never had an issue with a claim. Plus the vet invoices them directly.

Lonecatwithkitten · 14/04/2023 13:33

The important thing is how much the cover value is.
I pay £31.95 for 15K per year per cat cover including dental with many pets the cover is for two 9 month old neutered females.

BooksAndHooks · 14/04/2023 13:36

It is around £40 a month now I think. But covers lifetime illnesses, teeth etc and pays vet directly. Covered for £7,000 a year I think.

Jessica60 · 14/04/2023 09:07

Everything £80 excess

But what level of cover does that provide?

Is there a price limit per year or per illness?
How long is each illness or injury covered for?

Cheaper policies will only pay the first amount and won’t pay for ongoing illness that need lifelong or long term treatment.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/04/2023 02:36

@BooksAndHooks I have the same level of cover. It covers everything (not dentals). Up to £7.5k I think. And renews annually. Tesco have been brilliant. Claims always settled quickly.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/04/2023 02:37

(The limit is per condition)

whirlyhead · 16/04/2023 15:20

With pet plan, the top level of cover does £12k of vet fees and continues to pay out for the same conditions for the life of the policy. My 2 youngest are on this level of cover thank god. One of them has had 2 ops in 2 weeks which was £3000. Yikes. £35 a month each but they are only 4 - it gets more expensive with age.

HorribleCow7 · 21/04/2023 00:02

£19 per month with Petplan for 7.5k (I think lol) That’s the covered for life.

previous cat £21 per month for £4k (which she ran through in a few months after 5 years of being perfectly healthy , about £7k in total)

Dont go cheap if your limit isn’t the best, I wouldn’t go lower than £7k minimum now :(

Floralnomad · 21/04/2023 00:07

What is your vet fee limit per year ? . We pay £30 per month for Petplan lifetime cover with a 15 k per year limit .
