So I've just got back from the vets. My beautiful tabby 9 month old kitten has a badly broken back leg, we have no idea how. We have bloodstains all down the stairs, my husband from when he carried her, it's everywhere. But no obvious signs of where it's coming from. Vet no wiser. Best case scenario I have a 3 legged cat, I'm not thinking about the other options. I think I'm in shock, I tucked her in to bed at the vets, hopefully she's sleeping but I'm not. I've had cats for nearly 30 years, I thought I'd seen most things, but not this. My poor baby Saffie, I love her so much

She’s in the best place and if she did lose the leg it’s really not the end of the world, they manage very well . Has she managed to trap herself in the bannister somehow ? Hope she gets well soon 💐

Wishing her a speedy recovery. Take care OP, what a shock for you 💐

LilacpointMummy · 11/04/2023 13:47

I had this happen to one of mine years ago - we think she must have been hit by a car. She had her leg amputated and lived a long and happy life. There was nowhere she couldn't jump even with 3 legs!
I hope your cat makes a good recovery.

Any news on your poorly cat @Tr1skel1on .

Tr1skel1on · 11/04/2023 16:51

She's keeping her leg and doing ok. Thank you for asking

That is good news , have you found out what she had done ?

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 11/04/2023 19:35

Dis she get her paw caught in the radiator grill?

Tr1skel1on · 12/04/2023 23:55

Update, it's a really bad dislocated hip, but it's not actually a broken leg thank goodness. She's doing really well all things considered and we have the vital vet's appointment tomorrow

Oh poor thing, and poor you. They really do steal our hearts, don’t they? Fingers crossed for a quick recovery for her 🌸🐾

Tr1skel1on · 12/04/2023 23:58

No idea as to what's she's done. Vet said given the level of bruising either falling from a height or hit by a car. We'll never know

Thank you all for your help and support, my previous companion died age 22 so I'm a bit out date with kittens

My Maine Coon dislocated her hip and cracked the head of her femur when she was 1. They took off the head of the bone and made a hinge by pinning the muscles. A later op took the pins out when it healed as they were causing irritation. 18 months later she was up on the roof of the house, and lived to nearly 21, including a 2-day flight to France when she was 12.
Hope your cat does as well.

Floralnomad · 13/04/2023 01:35

Hope she gets well soon

Tr1skel1on · 17/04/2023 21:41

Update, still a lot of swelling and bruising but the hip is still where it's meant to be, hurray! However cabin fever is setting in. My gorgeous kitten let me know all through the night how grumpy she was in her crate. It's right next to my bed. I obviously can't move her anywhere else, and according to the vet the next week is crucial so I can't get her out and cuddle her. Anyone got ideas for cat toys that use front paws but not back legs?

Floralnomad · 18/04/2023 14:47

No idea , but it’s good to here she’s improving

Tr1skel1on · 24/04/2023 22:44

Update, as much for anyone desperately searching for info like I am, in the future. 2 weeks of being in a crate, following every instruction from the vets, the hip has dislocated again and won't go back. As a young kitten FHO surgery is the next step. Our beautiful tabby princess is a great patient for it because she is young, active , small and very fit. Here's hoping it works

That’s a shame but it is an issue with dislocations , hope the surgery works for her .
