My cat is broken: doesn't like dreamies

We have a 5 month old kitten/adolescent cat. He's absolutely brilliant!

But he doesn't like dreamies.

Old cat went mental for them so we have a gigantic tub of them. But he isn't bothered.

I need something to help to train him.

What would be your recommendation for alternative cat treats? (Ideally with "shakeablitiy", now that he's going outside I want something to bring him in)

Since they are really bad for cats it's probably no bad thing. But o feel your pain, as my cat can't tolerate them. And isn't keen on meat sticks. So finding treats is tricky.

NyanBinaryJohn · 07/04/2023 14:12

Ours love the thrive snacks. They come in a tube and thus you can shake them like maracas.

tinyblackcat · 07/04/2023 14:12

My DCat (who also likes Dreamies) gets very excited if you offer him the very same kibble he has in his bowl. Will come in from outside for it and everything. Weirdo

tinyblackcat · 07/04/2023 14:12

So, maybe it doesn’t need to be a treat at all..!

dementedpixie · 07/04/2023 14:12

Mine like the freeze dried meat treats. We buy big tubs of them from zooplus (cosma snackies)

Cosma snackies are similar but cheaper

RandomMess · 07/04/2023 14:14

Yep Thrive or Costa or even just cooked chicken pieces.

NyanBinaryJohn · 07/04/2023 14:16

I use the Zooplus points for a free tub with my orders Grin

Those lick-E-lick thingies. Our cat goes nuts for them.
Also my cat didn’t like dreamies as a kitten but grew into them.

Thanks for the tips.

I'm going to attempt to whistle train him. Nice noisy treats would be helpful in the beginning but I'll work with what I can.

Tried him in the whiskas treats this afternoon. He's pretty unenthused about them too. He'll eat them. He just doesn't go mental for them like my old girl did!

I'll work through the ones you've kindly suggested.

I keep chopped up roast chicken in the freezer - left overs from Sunday roast. Of course it doesn't rattle but it's a good treat.

TroysMammy · 07/04/2023 17:04

Whatever you do don't nickname them yum yums. Haribo stops in his tracks and spins his head around or comes running if we say "do you want some yum yums?" However when calling him to come in I feel an absolute idiot shouting "Haribo yum yums". My partner uses the alternative "Haribo fish".

Dreamies are called one two three. My partner let's him have 3 but first he says "one, two, three" and throws them into the dark kitchen and Haribo has to run around to find them.

We are absolutely bonkers in our house.

I'll look for these maracas, thanks!

He does like them, but I don't. They drip. They're gross. And there's no audible aspect

One of mine doesn’t like dreamies but will eat anything else…..cheese, cucumber, toast, the dog biscuits! Never had a cat clear the dog biscuits out before!

twolilacs · 10/04/2023 12:36

Ours like the Garfield treats with catnip.
